Here are a few popular expressions you might want to use in your oral or written GCSE/A level work (for bonus points!) :


*Ça vaut la peine / ça ne vaut pas la peine : it is (isn’t) worth it

*Ça a piqué ma curiosité : it caught my attention

*Tout est bien qui finit bien : all is well that ends well

*Il pleuvait des cordes : it was raining buckets

*Il faisait un froid de canard : it was bitterly cold (or something about brass monkeys…)

*C’était un navet : it was a really bad film

*C’est une autre histoire : it’s another story

*Ça coûte les yeux de la tête : it costs an arm and a leg

*J’en ai ras le bol / J’en ai marre : I am fed up

*J’ai fait la grasse matinée : I had a lie in

*J’ai eu le coup de foudre : it was love at first sight

*J’avais une faim de loup : I was soooo hungry

*C’est la fin des haricots : it’s the last straw

*Je n’étais pas dans mon assiette : I was not feeling too well

*C’est du gâteau : piece of cake

*C’est plus facile à dire qu’à faire : it’s easier said than done

*Ce n’est pas mon truc : it’s not my cup of tea
