Music Theory seems daunting for us all at the beginning. However believe it or not it is one of the most fun and rewarding aspects of music. Without music theory as a musician you will hit certain walls that you can not pass without learning even some basic theory. Some good books to read include 'The AB guide to music theory' parts one and two by Eric Taylor. They are ABRSM books that cover much of the basics of music theory and can help anyone to further their music theory understanding.

When learning theory it is important to apply it in a practical sense as early as possible. This is something I do with all my students and if you are training towards your GCSE, try and think of the music theory you are learning in a practical sense to help understand it better.
