Would you be prepared to talk about your stresses, worries and anxieties in a Mindfulness, Meditation and Stress Management group? What could possibly be the advantages of revealing your insecurities to others, and making yourself seem vulnerable in front of a group of your peers? Well, it could be one of the most powerful and freeing things you ever do! In my long experience of working with groups, for every person who is open and brave enough to admit to their insecurities, there are many others within the group (possibly everyone else!) who have the same concerns, and are profoundly grateful to discover they are not the only ones who feel that way.
One of the cruel things about becoming over-stressed is that it can distort your perception and isolate you, until you feel you are the only person who isn't coping among your work or social group of seemingly happy, well adjusted and capable people. But being in a Mindfulness or Stress Management group shows you just the opposite - that most of us struggle with some level of persistent low grade anxiety and can be ambushed by negative thinking. It's quite a relief to discover that we're not alone, and to come together to find practical, workable techniques that can help, and can easily be implemented in our everyday lives. A group will always be greater than the sum of its parts, and we can forge stronger strategies together than we may be able to create alone.
So if you haven't considered it before, why not think about joining a group and sharing first the lows, and then the highs, together?
