I recommend using the wonderful book by Gwendolyn Masin, 'Michaela's Music House', for approaches to teaching younger beginners the violin.
As well as being a beautifully illustrated book I find it very useful for finding games and exercises to introduce the techniques important to playing what can be a daunting instrument at first, especially for young children.
It also ties in with the Sassmanhaus series to provide an invaluable aid to the challenges of making the learning process fun and engaging.
