About Surita
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching for the 11+ exams now for 9 years. For me, this is about connecting with the individual, motivating them to want to achieve their end goal and giving them the self confidence to achieve it. Children I have taught have been successful at gaining places at Reading Boys and Kendrick Girls Grammar,- 2 of the top grammar schools within the country. Every year, some children also win scholarships to The Abbey and Queen Anne's. Children have also sat and passed all exams for Reading Bluecoat, Leighton Park and St Helen's St Katherine's.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have a real mix of children from the very bright, to the bright ones who don't realise it yet and to those who need much more help in building up ability and confidence. I often have a couple of children who when they first start with me, will look at some challenging work and say 'I can't do this, I don't know how to'. It is so lovely that after a couple of months they are happy to have a go and become comfortable attempting work that they would normally have seen beyond them. They notice the progress at school, have moved up sets/levels and become much more confident.

I am a friendly, personable and enthusiastic parent and tutor. If your child wants to attain a place at a selective school then I will work hard to teach, motivate and instil self-confidence.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I cover all 4 subjects for the 11+ exam ie. English, Maths, Verbal and Non- Verbal. The majority of my tutees are being tutored for the Berkshire (Reading Boys and Kendrick Girls School) CEM style grammar school entry. I also provide tuition for the local private schools. I have been teaching this for over10 years now and have had to adapt curriculum each time the exam style changes.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA (Hons) European Business Administration and worked for manÅ· years in the financial services sector and as a Strategic Management Consultant. My own children passed all exams sat, grammar and private, and I subsequently decided on a career change and started to help other children.
- How much do you charge?
£40 per session depending upon day and time.
Assessments £40.00.
Books charged on top and at cost.
- Where do you teach?
I only teach from my home in Caversham Heights, Reading, Berkshire. This provides teaching in a very relaxed environment. With the current corona virus epidemic, I have now switched to provide online tutoring, so geography is no longer an issue!
- When are you available?
Monday to Friday after school. Some lessons at weekends by arrangement.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I largely see children at the beginning of year 5. The majority will be aiming for Reading Boys School or Kendrick Girls. If they are grammar school material then a year of quite intense tutoring should be more than enough. I am finding more and more demand from Year 4 children who I tutor to help bring up levels needed for Year 5. Equally, I also see some Year 4s once every half term and provide advice for parents as to what they can be doing with their child at home. It is very easy to get caught up with tutoring your child too early and I truly believe that parents can do so much with their child in a home environment. Reading, times tables, fun/educational games, baking....... are all invaluable activities.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
11 + Berkshire Grammar Schools (CEM Test), Common Entrance 11+ and Private School 11+.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
If you don't try you will never know. There is no shame in not knowing the answer but you will only learn from trying and making mistakes. All I want at the end of tutoring is for you, your parents and myself to be able to put up our hands and say, "I tried my best". Every child is different and I just want you to reach your full potential. My motto is very much 'aim for the moon, try hard and if you don't reach it, it doesn't matter because you can still become a star!'
