Personal Message
Whether it is a commitment to achieving your best from the start of a course (recommended) or a bit of a rescue mission later on I can boost your confidence and motivate you towards better performance.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Chemistry to GCSE, AS & A2. This is my subject specialism via my teaching and tutoring career, industrial experience and main qualification.
Physics, Biology & 'combined/double' Science to GCSE. (Also taught and tutored regularly for over 25 years.)
KS3 Science.
Tell me about your qualifications.
Graduate Chemist with PGCE in Science.
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) since 1988.
PG Diploma in Chemical Pollution Monitoring via my previous career in the Water industry.
What kind of experience do you have?
Over 25 years experience of the full (11-19) age range of secondary Science specialising with 'A' level Chemistry for all of that time.
Long experience of 1:1 coaching and tuition on voluntary basis prior to taking early retirement.
I have taught all of the subjects at the levels stated and have remained familiar with examination specifications of the main boards including the recent ('post Gove') changes.
How much do you charge?
An initial consultation meeting (ca 30-45min) is free and no obligation is to be assumed from either you or myself.
Subsequent sessions are from £32 per hour and I don't work to a stop-clock unless someone is waiting which I endeavour to avoid! Nb for KS3 students I usually offer sessions of 40 mins at a reduced rate.
With payment in advance I will offer a substantial discount of 6 hrs for the price of 5 hrs (ie £160 ) but ONLY if they are at my tutoring base in Almondbury.
-- Please note that in order to travel I would probably be using time affecting two other lessons and as such would require additional costs to be met. This may be offered on an individual session basis depending on the duration and distance involved.
Where do you teach?
In the main I teach from my base in Almondbury (Huddersfield) in order to best accommodate the needs all of my regular clients.
I can offer to travel locally (Huddersfield) on some limited occasions - these are more likely to be prone to interruption if other clients require timings that suit my home based diary more readily.
I have tutored in the Mirfield/Dewsbury area on Thursday evenings in the last two years. Please enquire if this may be possible from January 2018.
When are you available?
School/ College term time:- Mon- Thu 4.00pm (start) - 7.00pm (start) - obviously the days and times become less available the more clients I get! Some availability in School/College holidays by negotiation.
For older students with college or school 6th form timetable flexibility lessons may be possible prior to 4pm.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
14-19 GCSE, iGCSE & 16+ for A level

KS3 (11-14)

Mature students welcomed.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
GCSE/ iGCSE Chemistry & Science.

A level (& AS of course) Chemistry.

nb I can advise and provide support with UCAS statements etc as I was Group Tutor at this level for most of my last 10 years of teaching.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes- DBS certificate obtained via voluntary work with a local Primary School which is subject to ongoing regular updating via that school.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
National Education Union.
Where and with whom did you train?
University of Huddersfield PGCE in Science, 1988.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Currently tutoring students for KS3 Science, GCSE Sciences and GCE 'A' level Chemistry from a variety of local school and college backgrounds.

nb Update August, 2017. In GCSE and AS examinations all of my tutoring students have exceeded their grade indications/estimates compared to when starting tuition with me. This includes two A level students now starting Dentistry and another starting Vet' Science after getting great results...great news!

A previous, and very noteworthy client, was a primary school teaching assistant who went from a 1995 GCSE Science D grade to a B grade with my help- she is now equipped to move towards training to teach..... It's never too late!
Do you have a personal message for students?
Chemistry can appear to be be somewhat baffling but becomes easier than you think if you get the basics right. However, there are no short cuts so it does require some genuine effort from you! I can help you improve with your GCSE/ iGCSE / AS / A2 studies provided you also do your bit. Success breeds success and anything becomes more enjoyable if you understand it more and gain the confidence to explain ideas to others. Whether you are studying the sciences as an imposition for your GCSE's or have genuine interest and ambition for higher education (and perhaps beyond) in Chemistry, Medical Science (or whatever else) I am sure I can help you achieve your aims.
