Most schools are still unprepared and unclear about how to adapt teaching and course content to prepare pupils from KS3 for the new challenging, rigorous exams which means many students are not acquiring the skills or knowledge required to fulfil their potential in the new English 9-1 GCSE. I have spent two years researching and preparing schemes of work to enable pupils to develop critical literacy and the skills they need to succeed.
Developed a bespoke skills based assessment charts designed to track competence in reading and writing in all aspects of the new exam to provide clarity on strengths and areas needed for development.

My daughter started to get English lesson from Jess Shillingford a few months ago. Jess's way of teaching is unique and specific and in so doing this it has led my daughter to the right path that she needed to be in so that she could have a head start to year 11 and achieve those high grades. In addition, the ambition and passion within jess's teaching has made my daughter enjoy English rather than seeing it as a subject, enlightening her views towards daily life as well as across the curricul
Miss Shillingford is the best English teacher I have ever had in my lifetime, she taught me so much in such little time, she is helpful and critical, she was able to isolate the sections of English that I was less skilled and turn my weakness into a strength. The exam board that I took was edexcel and I found the 'English Language' papers rather difficult but after 2-3 weeks of Miss Shillingford's teachings the 'English language' were a breeze and I felt no pressure at all.
Just being thankful to you Jess Shillingford for listening to my concerns, regarding the lack of education my son was receiving at that school. Thankful that you were so passionate about teaching, that the short time you spent tutoring my son, you bought out in him what a good teacher should bring out of a child. Thank you for making it possible. Thank you for giving him that extra boost of confidence. We salute you for bringing out the best in our 'son'.
