Personal Message
Hello, I am a positive and encouraging violin teacher and active performer based in N4. Learning an instrument should be fun and something to look forward to! Everyone learns differently, so I take great care to adapt my approach for each student.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
In addition to teaching classical violin, I also play in a range of styles from jazz and folk to bluegrass so I am very happy to explore different genres of music and improvisation with students as they wish.
Tell me about your qualifications.
GRNCM First Class honours Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester
BMus(Hons) First Class honours Manchester University
PGCE QTS UEL and Mossbourne Community Academy Hackney

(I studied at the RNCM and Manchester University concurrently on the ‘Manchester Joint Course’)
What kind of experience do you have?
I really enjoy teaching the violin and it is very important to me that my students enjoy their lessons too. Instilling confidence in students and a love for music is one of my main strengths as a teacher: I believe it is for these reasons that I have always had a busy teaching practice both privately and in a school setting for the last ten years!

My students range from four to fifty-five, from beginners to Grade 8. From preparing students for ABRSM exams to experimenting with the electric violin, I pride myself on helping students get what they want from their violin lessons.

In addition to teaching, I am an active performer. I have performed with blues musician Seasick Steve, musical theatre star Ramin Karimloo, John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, Mumford and Sons and Paloma Faith. I have also played at a private dinner party for HRH Prince William and Kate, Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Weber. Television work includes X-Factor and the Royal Variety Show. Please see my website for more details.
How much do you charge?
Prices from: 60 mins - £40 and 30 mins £20
Where do you teach?
I teach from my home studio near Harringay station and can travel to the surrounding areas of Stoke Newington, Islington and Hackney. I also travel to Central London.
When are you available?
My schedule is generally quite flexible, please contact me for details.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and abilities from complete beginners up to Grade 8. So whether you are four years old, sixty-four years old, a complete beginner or coming back to playing after a few years off, feel free to get in touch.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am happy to prepare students for Grade exams
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Yes, the Musician's Union and National Union of Teachers (NUT)
Do you have a personal message for students?
I am a firm believer in Sinichi Suzuki’s assertion that everyone can learn how to play the violin beautifully – similarly as everyone learns to speak his or her mother tongue beautifully. Yes, it takes time and patience but the rewards are absolutely worth it. I have been extremely fortunate to have received outstanding and inspiring tuition throughout my own musical career and strive to pass this on to my own students.

It’s never to late or too early to start learning the violin - so I look forward to hearing from you!
