Here are reviews of my professional work as an actor:
- Robert Metson in the show's central story of Claude, gives a nuanced and beautifully pitched performance - Tony Peters - Radio Times (HAIR -The Vaults)
- 'O'Boyle's production is staged with far more dash than cash. Robert Metson brings depth to Claude, torn between conformity and revolt' - Lynn Gardner - The Guardian (HAIR - Hope Mill Theatre)
- 'The cast of 10, each of whom plays multiple characters, is led by Robert Metson who does an excellent job as the narrator and love interest' - Grace Ward - Everything Theatre (The Caucasian Chalk Circle)
- 'Robert Metson delivers a powerful and thoughtful performance as Jonah in writer Natasha Berger's first produced play' - Sandra Giorgetti - British Theatre Guide (I'll Be Seeing You)
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes I have a DBS certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
The London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and The London School of Musical Theatre (LSMT)
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Equity, Spotlight and Mandy
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Current Students have gone on to book roles on television shows across NETFLIX, AMAZON PRIME, APPLE TV, BBC & ITV. Others have gone on to be offered places at drama schools such as the International School of Screen Acting.
My two current students are away filming but have been working on developing their American Accents,.
Most students arrive under confident and unsure of how to address an audition panel or even how to conduct themselves within auditions. Having been taught the key skills I have learnt during my career as an actor, my students have developed into confident auditioners, with the ability to tackle much more demanding text and deliver speeches and songs with comfort in pressure situations.

My sessions are all about the students having fun! its through enjoyment and acceptance of self that we can truly achieve the goals we want when auditioning.
I work 1-1 across all entertainment mediums (theatre, musical theatre and television).
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach acting, singing, public speaking and yoga.
I specialise in developing actors with their acting, singing, performance skills but also work with all ages on general and public speaking. This ranges from professionals wanting to have more clarity and precision when approaching business meetings, to pitching new products and ideas in business negotiations.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
Having trained at both The London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and the London School of Musical Theatre (LSMT). I have been equipped with a very wide skill set running from teaching classics (Shakespeare, Marlowe, Johsnon, Ibsen, Chekhov etc.) and modern plays to singing all styles with ease and confidence.
- How much do you charge?
On a 1-1 basis I charge £60 p/h and £40 p/half hour. With groups, depending on the workshop it varies, but a guide price is £50 p/h.
I encourage regular sessions with my 1-1 students to ensure development and improvement, so as an extra incentive I offer 5 sessions and you get your sixth half price.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from home. If necessary I'm happy travel to lessons as long as expenses are covered or they have booked a block of sessions mentioned in the offer above.
- When are you available?
As a working actor my availability changes from week to week, however this has never been an issue with clients before and we always find time for weekly sessions.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages for those who are looking to apply to LAMDA examinations.
Mainly 16+ for those looking to apply to drama school but I make exceptions for younger students wanting to apply for the National Youth Theatre and National Youth Music Theatre.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Arranged over 40 minute zoom sessions.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Have fun! My sessions are all about students enjoying themselves and expressing their personality through the characters they choose to portray. Learning is about positive reinforcement and guidance. I'm a big believer in the saying 'you get more flies with honey than vinegar'. In this line of work positive reinforcement reaps much great rewards than 'tough love' .
Acting is the opportunity to explore the parameters of yourself as a person. Through this we can create the most believable and genuine performances. Accepting and loving what you bring to the table as a person is half the battle, so enjoy yourselves!
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Eighteen months ago my 16 year old son Ethan announced he wanted to pursue further education in acting once his GCSE’s had finished. This necessitated him preparing for auditions for acting schools. This vocation for us was an unknown entity so we decided to source an acting coach
That coach was Robert Metson who has been teaching Ethan now for around 18 months. Initially Robert prepared him for his initial drama school auditions and since then Robert has been teaching him on a weekly basis
We all hold Robert in extremely high regard as both an outstanding drama coach and an excellent role model for a teenage boy.
Initially Robert prepared Ethan for his drama school auditions by helping in select suitable monologues both modern and classical, analysing the text and interpreting them in an original way and performing them confidently whilst being able to talk about the monologues. Robert worked patiently and proactively with Ethan and his enthusiastic style allowed Ethan to gain confidence and increase his ability to act whilst enjoying the sessions. Robert even set up a ‘mock audition’ for Ethan so he could experience the audition format in a safe environment. With Roberts approach having a huge impact on Ethan he was accepted into both drama schools and is now studying their full time.
Robert continues to coach Ethan on a weekly basis covering techniques such as classics, comedy and some film work whilst giving him advice in areas to further develop his skills. Each lesson is a positive experience in both gaining acting skills but also life skills such as confidence and positivity due to Roberts’s open and pragmatic approach. His teaching style also inspires Ethan to focus his studies and develop resilience. Robert is also very patient and gets the best out of Ethan and is very aware that teenagers are a mixture of emotions at times!
Robert is a pleasure to know, reliable, proactive and inventive in his approach to teaching and role modelling behaviours.
We thoroughly recommend Robert to anyone looking for an acting coach with a real individual style and approach
