About Alice
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have 5 years experience teaching a number of one-to-one students of all ages, from 5 years old to adults. Taken students successfully through graded examinations (including theory and composition) and performance preparation.
I have 3 years experience with small group music sessions, ages 5-11 with general music - piano, guitar, drums, singing - and music-based therapy.
For the last 6 years I have been working as a professional performing musician in London, playing a range of music from classical to jazz, folk and world.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I am in the process of updating my DBS (I had one previously for music therapy).
- Where and with whom did you train?
I most recently studied with clarinettist Stuart King (who mentors and tutors at Trinity Laban, Royal Holloway)

Cambridge educated clarinettist available for teaching beginners to grade 8 clarinet - both classical and jazz. As well as preparing for exams, I enjoy following and guiding each student's own personal interests in music, such as a style or composer.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Clarinet: beginners to grade 8, both classical and jazz (including improvising), as well as folk and world music.
Music theory & history for beginners up to undergraduate level.
Composition skills for beginners up to A-level.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied Music at Cambridge (history, theory, philosophy, composition, analysis), gaining first class honours. Gained grade 8 in clarinet prior to this. Am now working professionally as a performer.
I also gained a doctoral scholarship and am in the processing of completing my PhD in history/philosophy of music.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £40 per hour. Students able to come to my address will have a reduced fee of £35.
In some cases I am happy to travel a bit further than my area/central London but would agree with my student some travel expenses to cover trains etc.
- Where do you teach?
Am happy to teach either at my address in Bounds Green (which is near Palmers Green, Muswell Hill, Wood Green, Alexandra Palace), in the nearby area or anywhere in London Zones 1 & 2.
I would consider other areas in Greater London or just out of London towards Welwyn / Hatfield but may need £5-£10 for travel expenses if so.
- When are you available?
My normal availability is Monday-Friday daytimes and early evenings (particularly Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays). Sunday mornings between 10-12.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach any age from 5 years to adult, and levels from beginners to grade 8 in clarinet (classical and jazz), beginners to undergraduate level music theory & history.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I have prepared students for graded clarinet exams 1-6 and can do so up to grade 8 (Guildhall / Trinity / ABRSM).
I can also tutor GCSE/A-level examinations in music, as well as undergraduate mentoring in BA Music/BMus.
