About Amanda
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching for 22 years. I am an examiner and a consultant specialising in exam revision classes at schools. I have been invited into schools to specifically focus on high achieving students aiming to get an A*. As I am examiner I have an in-depth knowledge of the specification content for QCA, AQA, OCR and Edexcel. My A level and GCSE students this year all achieved either on or above their target grades. With a large number of A and A* grade for both my tutees and my students at school. Many of my students have gained places at top universities to study a range of degrees including medicine, dentistry and biomedical sciences. I tutor students from a range of schools including QE boys, Latimer, Bedford Modern, Sharnbrook, Parmiters, St Marthas, St James and Henrietta Barnet.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a DBS certificate
- Where and with whom did you train?
Leicester university
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have a A level biology student from Bedford Modern who was struggling to get an A in her end of topic tests, she got an A in her biology and is off to study Vet med at Liverpool.
I have an A level biologist who is retaking year 12, she failed year 12 last year but is now achieving A or B in her end of topic tests, (results are in: A!! Off to do Physiotherapy)
I tutored young man in both geography and biology, his confidence improved massively since our lessons began and his grades are improved as a result. I spent a lot of time going through exam papers with him which highlighted areas that he needed help with as well increasing his familiarity with the exam questions. (He got an A and a B)
I tutor 2 sisters who are now in year 10 and 13, I also tutored their sisters all the way through GCSE and A level, they are both at University now.

I aim to teach students to understand concepts rather than learn by rote. - Qualified teacher and examiner. - Many students go onto medicine, vetmed and dentistry. - Prepare students for 13+, 11+ and scholarships: Westminster, Habs, QE Boys, Latymer, St Albans, Oundle, Bedford Modern and Kimbolton: for students outside the UK and UK based. I also have many international students studying IGCSE, CIE, IB and iA levels.
During lesson we look at exam questions and examiners reports to highlight the skills and knowledge needed to attain the top grades. I use exam papers to identify areas of weakness so we can then work on specific skills or topics. We can then revise topics and make revision materials.
Having dyslexia myself means I can help dyslexic students learn techniques to help them with both revision and accessing information on the exam papers. I have extensive SEN experience both at School and at home (my daughter has Down Syndrome).
I tutor online but can do some lessons face to face at my house for local students.
£45 per hour
I presently tutor a number of international students online, some are based in Shanghai, Dubai, Malawi, Switzerland, Bangladesh and some in the UK. I can email or share files. I use either WhatsApp or Zoom for lessons.

I've known Amanda as we taught in the same secondary school for several years. Amanda is extremely talented as a teacher and as a tutor. She is experienced and capable of tailoring her teaching to the learning needs of her students, who can achieve her full potential under her guidance. Amanda is also a very positive and friendly person - while remaining professional - and this enables her to establish positive and fruitful relationship with her students, who enjoy learning and very often choose to carry on their studies at university.
I worked with Amanda as her second in science at school and can confirm that she is an outstanding teacher. The quality of her lessons are very good and both inspiring and full of rich learning.
Amanda will adapt her teaching technique accordingly and will make learning enjoyable. She has a friendly manner, making students feel at ease.
Amanda has helped my son grow in confidence and ability in Science and Geography. She is exceptionally knowledgable and engaging and ensures he fully understands the concepts. He really looks forward to his lessons. Highly recommended
Having known Amanda for a number of years now, I truly believe in her and her ability as a tutor. I’d have no problem in recommending her. Amanda has a lovely style in her teaching and gains the very best from her pupils. Thanks for everything Amanda
Thankyou so much for helping Rhianna. She got 3 A* in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. You helped her gain confidance in all of her subjects.
I went to Amanda for tutoring A level with Biology. When I first went to her I lacked confidence and I was failing in every area of the course. Amanda didn't seem fazed by this. Week by week I gained in confidence and went from U grades to A grades in some of my module exams. She could identify my strengths and weaknesses and worked with me to try and improve.
I am now studying Biological sciences at Aberystwyth University. Without Amanda's help I wouldn't have got to where I am today.Pryanka has enjoyed the last three years of tutoring with you and is well on her way to achieving A* in her GCSE's.
Amanda is a great teacher who listens and is a great support. I was an adult learner needing to pass my Science GCSE. She supported my learning and created lots of experiences that were creative to ensure the learning was enjoyable.
