Personal Message
I am a professional opera singer as well as a private singing teacher based in Long Ditton/Surbiton. I love teaching the beginner, giving them a solid technique, through to working with the more advanced singers wanting in addition a greater insight.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Singing, classical singing, opera.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have 8 years of training behind me with a Bachelor of Music with honours from the Royal Northern College of Music, a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Vocal Performance with Distinction and an Artistic Diploma in Opera Studies from the Royal College of Music International Opera School.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have performed as a soloist with Glyndebourne Festival Opera, English Touring Opera, Longborough Festival Opera as well as many other companies and festivals around the UK. I adore performing and all the preparation involved in the run up to the first performance. I have also taken part in a number of International Competitions all around Europe. Highlihgts have been as a Semi-finalist at the Montserrat Caballé International Vocal Competition in Zaragoza, Spain, at the 49th International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands and at the London Handel Singing Competition as part of the London Handel Festival.

I have learnt so much through these competitions, and I enjoy being able to pass on all this advice to my students. I have been teaching for nearly three years. A real highlight for me was preparing one of my students for her audition for the Undergraduate programmes at Music Colleges. She is now about to go into her 2nd year at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 an hour.
Where do you teach?
I teach from my home in Surbiton. I am willing to travel to my students homes within a 10 mile radius of Surbiton. Nearby towns include Kingston upon Thames, Richmond upon Thames, Wandsworth, Epsom, Oxshott, Esher.
When are you available?
I am fairly flexible as I am a freelance singer and teacher. I teach weekdays and evenings and in certain circumstances on a Saturday morning.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach from the age of 8 upwards. I enjoy teaching mature students as well, one of my students is in her early 70s and her lessons are such fun.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for their ABRSM exams.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do have an DBS Certificate..
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the British Voice Association.
Where and with whom did you train?
At the Royal Northern College of Music, I studied with the late Barbara Robotham and David Maxwell Anderson. I was very fortunate to specialise in Baroque performance for a year under Philippa Hyde. Whilst studying at the Royal College of Music, I studied with Eiddwen Harrhy and Dinah Harris. I now study privately with Raymond Connell.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I have several students of all different ages, ranging from 11 to 72. One of my students is now on her 2nd year of the Undergraduate programme at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. All of my students are very passionate and committed singers who work hard but also get great enjoyment from their singing, from their weekly singing lessons to singing in their chosen choirs.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I adore teaching singing and I feel my passion and commitment really comes across in my lessons. I have wonderful students who make teaching such fun.
