Personal Message
I really enjoy the challenge of teaching, it keeps me on my toes and I find it really interesting how different people learn and respond. My own teachers have had a wonderfully positive influence on me and I'm keen to pass it forwards.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
As a bassoonist I mostly teach bassoon, but also teach music theory, reed making and offer coaching for chamber music groups and ensembles.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I initially trained at the Royal Marines School of Music in Portsmouth. Following this I did my BMus and a Masters at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with distinction and a DipRAM.
What kind of experience do you have?
My performance experience includes professional symphony orchestras, chamber music (most often with my wind quintet, Cavendish Winds), theatre and opera orchestras, and performing on parade and in concert with the Royal Marines Band Service.
How much do you charge?
I offer a reduced rate for a consultation lesson of £15 for 30 minutes.
Where do you teach?
As I have a car I usually travel to students homes to teach them. I live in East Finchley but one of my current students lives in Hampton, so I'm happy to travel quite far. Do get in touch!
When are you available?
I'm very flexible but can be available most days and times, and this can vary to fit around your own commitments too.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all levels and ages! Everybody is different and I enjoy getting to know people and figuring out the best approach for them.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I'm happy to guide students through the exam system (ABRSM, Trinity etc.) but it's not essential. I can also help in preparing for auditions and performances as and when they come up.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Do you have a personal message for students?
Please do get in touch if you're interested in arranging a lesson, or if you have any questions about practice, reeds etc.!
