I am a vivacious and experienced musician with a passion for musical theatre and chamber music. I very much enjoy teaching as it allows me to pass on my enthusiasm and love of music, facilitated by the acquirement of excellent technical skills.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach violin and viola to people of all ages and standards. I teach piano up to grade 5.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a Bachelor of Music with Honours on violin, and also studied viola as a second instrument.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught privately for eight years and have a 100% pass rate for all exams sat by my students. I currently teach both privately and within a school. As a performer I specialise in chamber music and musical theatre, playing regularly in recitals, at functions/weddings and with several orchestras. I also play electric violin as a soloist, and have performed with various celebrities such as Rod Stewart, Sting, and Robbie Williams. Away from my music I am a dancer and dance teacher, and have also taught horse riding both in groups and individually.
How much do you charge?
Violin and Viola - £30 for an hour of tuition, £25 for 45 minutes, £20 for half an hour
Piano - £25 for an hour of tuition, £20 for 45 minutes, £15 for half an hour
Where do you teach?
I live in Tyldesley, Wigan, Northwest of Manchester. I prefer to teach from home but I may be able to negotiate some exceptions.
When are you available?
I teach on weekdays, both during termtime and in school holidays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
Violin and Viola - ages 5 and above, any standards welcome.
Piano - ages 5 and above, up to grade 5.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I would be happy to work with students towards any ABRSM graded examinations, and I hold a 100% pass rate for all exams undertaken by my students. It is not a requirement however - exams are a personal choice, not an obligation.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes I have a valid CRB check.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied with Roger Coull of the Coull String Quartet for five years before attending the RNCM, and with Benedict Holland and Michael Gurevich during my studies at the college. I have also received chamber music tutelage under players such as Stephen Orton, Dave Routledge, Petr Prause (cellist, Talich Quartet), and the late Christopher Rowland (first violinist, Fitzwilliam Quartet).
Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently have many private students of varying standards, and ranging in age from 5 to 67 years. I very much enjoy the individual approach I can give to my students as no two are alike, which I feel is a fantastic way to explore the many differing ways in which people learn most effectively.
