About Calum
I graduated LAMDA in July 2012 and have been preparing students for the Drama School audition circuit ever since. Some of my previous students have accepted places at RADA, LAMDA etc.
I continue to work as a professional actor; last year I was in the West End/BBC production of HAMLET (with Andrew Scott) and MARY STUART (with Juliet Stevenson). I've also performed with the RSC, National Theatre, NTScotland, Bath Theatre Royal, Birmingham REP, Manchester Royal Exchange and around the world in China and Russia. In 2016 I took the title role in a $12M IMAX movie that filmed in the Amazon Rainforest - it's currently being shown in IMAX cinemas all over the USA.

Perfect! Calum displayed incredible patience and dedication as I navigated through a subject with which I am highly unfamiliar. He recommended materials to read and remained professional in the midst of my obnoxious, unending questions and probing. Thank you!

Perfect! There are no words to describe my delight about our lessons with Calum! He’s just a perfect couch, very polite, patient and sensible. I’ll definitely continue to work with him!
Perfect! Calum is an excellent tutor - he is highly professional, outgoing, and great at giving precise feedback. He has really helped me to step up my game for Drama School auditions and I would greatly reccommend him to anyone looking to audition.
Perfect! Calum managed to secure my daughter a drama scholarship for her sixth form in just a few lessons. His knowledge is current and extensive. He recommended material and knew how to get to know the characters involved. My daughter felt a bit apprehensive at first about a webcam lesson but was put at ease immediately. I think he is a natural teacher...I could not recommend hm more strongly.
Perfect! Calum is a true professional and i have already learnt so much from him. I am looking forward to more lessons with him to prepare for drama school auditions.
Perfect! As a tutor Calum is very helpful, professional and accommodating, while as a professional in theatre he has a lot to offer and provides useful information and clear instruction.

Calum is very supportive, you feel absolutely comfortable asking him for help or advice at any time. The help doesn’t stop at the end of the lesson. He pays a lot of attention, perceives things very acutely and works his way around who you are and how you experience acting, gives you the freedom and confidence to explore. I must honestly say that I had lost a bit of the joy I used to have when I first started acting and was surprised when I started to feel it again working with him, to my greatest joy. If you don’t have fun in it, there is just no point in doing it. You have fun, you are pushed and supported. Most importantly, you trust yourself to go further and put the work in because you know you are believed in. He is, in my humble opinion, the best tutor you could ever have. I can do nothing else but recommend him a thousand times.
Calum has a naturally calming personality that cannot be taught. I was extremely nervous before auditioning for drama school but with calum's impressive knowledge and constructive teaching I flew through all my auditions, getting many recalls and eventually a place at a top drama school. I Would highly recommended him to anyone seeking acting help. He will go that extra mile for you and genuinely wants to extract your best potential.
I have known Calum Finlay for over ten years. He is extremely trustworthy and fantastic to collaborate with. I have witnessed him being a very patient and tutor. We have worked on several theatrical projects together, and he has always worked diligently to ensure the project success.
I have seen him teach 1:1 and also in a group and Calum's technique is very adaptable to who he is working with.
His impressive work ethic and passion is the reason I would recommend him to anyone!
I've worked with Calum as a actor, writer, director and workshop facilitator and he is a wonderful person to work with. He is committed and encouraging, putting the emphasis on whatever it is you are working on, whether that be a piece of text, an improvisation or an idea, developing your skills as a performer rather than fixing your flaws.
Because he has worked with such a interesting and varied group of theatre companies and directors (RSC, Told By An Idiot, Robert Icke), he has an immense amount of knowledge to give to a pupil who is starting to delve into their own interests in plays and theatre or if you just want to build your confidence. He is very industry savy and can help with your professional development.
I would also reccomend working with Calum because he is kind, patient and fun.Calum is a tremendous tutor: clever, knowledgeable, highly efficient, inspirational, fun to be around. My daughter has gained an immense amount from her sessions with him.
Calum helped me immensely in my audition preparation process - he suggested some speeches to me and one of them just happened to be the perfect one, which I am so grateful for, because it's not easy at all to find something that both fits the type of actor you are but also resonates with you. He is extremely supportive and knows how to ask the right questions to help the process of "unlocking" the speech. Every time after working with him I felt like I was able to go deeper into the essence of the speech, but we also had a lot of fun in the process. I don't think I'd be able to find things which I've discovered without his help!
Calum was highly recommended to me by a fellow actor when I was searching for help with a self tape for Nina Gold. I couldn't believe how much he got out of me on screen, a form of acting I am less comfortable with. He put me completely at ease in front of the camera and got me to a standard that I never would have been able to reach alone. I have since returned to him for help with numerous self tapes, he has such a good eye for screen work and is truly brilliant at getting the best out of actors. I couldn't recommend him as a acting tutor highly enough.
An excellent teacher, patient, intelligent and insightful, he is hugely knowledgeable about theatre having worked at the highest end of the profession for the last 6 years. Tailors lessons to students needs and abilities.
Calum helped out at a very early stage of the audition process and it was a brilliant kickstarter. He's a very calming presence to have in a room, especially dealing with something that could be very nerve-inducing. Calum created a dialogue in which he listened to what I had to say and gave his own interpretation. Following our sessions, I got into RADA, LAMDA and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
I got in touch with Calum regarding help with my drama school auditions. As a tutor he supported me through each stage of the process and has a clear understanding of what drama schools are looking for. He is 100% reliable and a genuinely lovely person. Calum was instrumental in my offer of a place at The Manchester School of Theatre.
