I'm a highly experienced and enthusiastic teacher who gets huge satisfaction out of seeing her students succeed!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Cello, chamber music, audition coaching
Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated with honours from the Royal College of Music in 2007 and have since led a versatile career as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. I have performed concertos and recitals in venues such as the Purcell Room, St. John's Smith Square, Zurich Tonhalle, Martinu Hall Prague and many others. As the cellist of the Erato Piano Trio I regularly tour the UK and as afield as China, and have also recorded for Toccata Classics. I have worked as a guest with many distinguished orchestras such as the Orchestra of La Scala Milan, Northern Sinfonia and the London Mozart Players and have recorded commercial tracks at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching intensively for the last fourteen years and have consciously made it a central part of my career alongside my performing commitments. As well as running my private studio I have been invited to give masterclasses and lead workshops at institutions such as the Royal Welsh College of Music, the Royal College of Music Summer School, Tanglin Trust School Singapore, St. Paul's School as well as for Enterprise Scotland. I have a profound interest in the history of string teaching, particularly the Russian School of playing which has produced many of today's finest performers. My students regularly achieve excellent exam results and several are music scholars at major independent schools.
How much do you charge?
£45 per hour at home, extra by negotiation for travel.
Where do you teach?
I do much of my teaching at my home studio in Clapham where I have got a great teaching environment with piano, mirrors, the right chairs, a vast library of music and a comfortable environment for parents to sit in the lesson if they wish (complete with tea and cookies!) I also teach a few students at their homes in SW London and teach in North London for one afternoon a week.
When are you available?
Flexible, by negotiation.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I currently teach children from the age of 5 right up to 18 and beyond.
Whilst many teachers dread teaching beginners, I love teaching children from the very outset of their training as I strongly believe this is the most important instruction any musician will ever have. It's at the very beginning where solid technical foundations that will enable the child to progress swiftly need to be built, and this needs highly specialised teaching.
I also work with older students who are preparing to enter a specialist music school or conservatoire and students of all ages who need intensive help with improving their technique in order to be able to achieve their goals.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM exams
Music scholarship auditions
Music college entrance exams
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
DBS checked
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I do offer lessons via Skype where appropriate. Whilst I would not use it as a permanent arrangement, I frequently offer online lessons for additional preparation before exams, consultation lessons and to keep an eye on my students when I'm on tour!
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Musicians Union
Where and with whom did you train?
I trained with two of the most renowned cellists performing today, Raphael Wallfisch and Leonid Gorokhov, under whose guidance I completed my degree at the Royal College of Music. Before that I also trained at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hanover, Germany. Whilst at the RCM, I also studied piano under Kathron Sturrock. Many masterclasses with renowned artists, both as a cellist and chamber musician.
Tell me about some of your current students.
My current class of private students includes children who are looking to train as professional musicians and some who are preparing to enter a specialist music school. Several of my past and present students hold music scholarships at major independent schools such as Latymer, Channing School and Sevenoaks.
