About Chloe
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching sporadically since I started university in 2005 but have been making it more of my profession since 2009 and I love it! In the early days I focused more on A-level students, but in the last two years or so I have been tutoring a large range of undergraduates, helping them with essay writing technique, proofreading, dissertations and research methods. They have been studying subjects as varied as Nursing, Surveying and Politics.
I also work for Assistive Solutions, providing assistive technology tuition for students in higher education with learning disabilities. I take them through how to use various pieces of software that are aimed at helping with dyslexia, visual and physical impairments.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes. My current CRB was obtained in January 2012.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students are mainly University Undergraduates. I have taken two students through their dissertation process including planning, research strategies and structuring ideas. The subjects that my students are studying are as diverse as History of Art, Dance Therapy, Nursing and Structural Surveying.
Here's what some of my current students have said about me recently...
'I've learned more in the last two hours than I have all year!' - Barney, A-level Economics and Politics student and prospective Oxford University undergraduate.
'Chloe has been great in helping me to understand how to structure an essay, making it RELEVANT TO THE QUESTION, rather than a simple narrative. It's also been good to get ideas from someone outside the A level history course, who doesn't have any bias/preconceived ideas. Also I've been taught to form opinions of what happened, thinking about the consequences of peoples actions/ what the effects were, instead of regurgitating information from textbooks and teachers, and forming ambiguous opinions. All in all her help has been invaluable, and I hope the grades keep climbing.' David aged 17, History AS-level student

My name is Chloe and I have four years experience in encouraging students to write better essays, be more focused with their work and overcome blocks to learning in order to aim for higher levels of achievement.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
The majority of students that come to me are undergraduates that are in need of help with essay writing, research and planning their dissertations in the humanities and social sciences. I also however have three years experience in teaching Assisitive Solutions Technology with Assistive Solutions LTD to students with dyslexia. These technologies include dictation software, referencing software (available free to all students) and assistive writing software.
Many students know exactly what they want to say but lack the skills and tricks that enable them to put their words into cohesive arguments. The demands of academic life can be quite challenging to certain students especially if they have not had to do much essay writing in the past. I can teach you a few basic tricks and tools that should lead to you having increased confidence in the rest of your studies.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a 2.1 in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and I graduated in 2008. I also have straight As in History, English, Maths and Theatre Studies A-levles.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £28 per hour but I am willing to negotiate for group lessons or lessons booked and paid for in advance.
- Where do you teach?
I teach in both Bristol and Bath. In Bristol I teach from my home in St Werburgh's but I do drive and can come to visit your home if you prefer.
- When are you available?
I am available in the daytime only. 5 days a week.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
A level and University.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
A-levels
