Personal Message
I am a Clarinet, Saxophone, Piano and Music Theory tutor with 25 years' experience. I teach all ages, levels and musical styles in the York area.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Clarinet, Saxophone, Piano and Keyboard in all styles from Classical to Jazz, Pop and Rock. I also teach Music Theory.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a B.A.HONS from York University and ABRSM Grade 8 Distinctions in Clarinet/ Piano & Music Theory.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught for 25 years in a number of schools and colleges including Ampleforth College, Ashville College(Harrogate), Queen Ethelburga's College, Bootham School, The Mount School and York St. John University.
How much do you charge?
For instrumental and theory tuition, my fee is £15 per half hour for an individual lesson. Shorter lessons are available on a pro rata basis.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home off Hull Road in York and also at Bootham School, off Bootham in York, North Yorkshire. I am within easy reach from Leeds, Thirsk, Harrogate, Malton and Scarborough and am even closer to outlying areas of York such as Huntington, Earswick, Haxby, Poppleton, Stamford Bridge, Stockton-on-forest, Sheriff Hutton, Wheldrake, Selby and Strensall.
When are you available?
I teach during the School term time but am also available for lessons during the holidays. I teach after school hours Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings. I can also teach adult students during the weekdays.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach from 6 years of age and there is no upper age limit. I do have retired students.
I teach from Beginner to Diploma in Clarinet and Saxophone - and from Beginner to Grade 8 in Piano, Keyboard. & Music Theory.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am happy to prepare students for exams if they so wish although this is not essential. I am familiar with the Classical and Jazz Syllabuses of both ABRSM and Trinity College.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
The Association of Teachers and Lecturers.
Where and with whom did you train?
I achieved my Grade 8 Distinctions while at St. Paul's Girls' School, London.
I achieved a B.A.HONS in Music from York University.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Two of my students have achieved 1sts for their final recitals at University in the last few years. Another achieved a Merit for her ATCL Diploma. Many students have achieved Grade 8 Classical and Jazz Distinctions and one girl went on to read Music at Oxford University.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Above all i want my students to have great fun learning an instrument and to experience the joy music-making can bring.
