About Damon

- What kind of experience do you have?

My current teaching positions are: Violin Teacher and Ensemble Coach at Junior Trinity College of Music, Kings School Canterbury and Dame Alice Owen's School. I am also a violin mentor On the Pathways Programme run by London Music Masters.My recent students have gained places at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Purcell School and Chetham's School of Music and all four of the specialist junior conservatiore departments in London. They have also gained prizes at Music Festivals, Music Scholarships to Private Schools and have achieved positions in the National Childrens' Orchestra of Great Britain and the National Youth Orchestra. After all these years of teaching my students still have a 100% record in gaining Distinction in their Grade 8 and Diploma exams!I also have good keyboard skills which enable students to play with another instrument from the very start which can greatly increase their ensemble skills. I have performanced in many orchestral broadcasts by Radio and Television including the BBC Proms and have regularly performed with the City of Birmingham Symphony, English National Ballet, Bournemouth Symphony, BBC Concert Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra throughout my freelance orchestral career. I have played Principal Second violin with Opera North in both their Concert and Opera series and my chamber work includes the Mancini String Quartet and Flanagan Trio.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I was a Music Scholar at King Edward VI School, studied on the Hampshire Specialist Music Course and gained my Bachelor and Masters Degrees from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. During my time at the Guildhall I studied with the world renowned pedagogue Simon Fischer and then postgraduate performance studies with the International Concert Artist Ilya Grubert at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam

Another very special highlight was one of my private studio students taking part in a concert conducted by Sir Simon Rattle at the Royal Festival Hall. An excerpt of this performance was televised by BBC Television.
