Holly is fantastic -- very approachable, direct in her teaching, gives clear instructions and Hannah has benefitted greatly with the one-to-one tuition. Hannah has been stretched and pushed forward, which she has enjoyed and thrived upon. Since Hannah has been coming to Holly over the summer months, Holly has shown her new techniques and methods which have improved her comprehension of the text she has just read.
I have no hesitation in recommending Mrs Swinton. Mrs Swinton was patient and kind, using Robbie's interests to catch his attention. He found each session fun and is now exactly where he should be with his phonic work. Mrs Swinton has taught me more effective ways of helping him at home and we don't get frustrated anymore. I can see a tremendous difference and his confidence has increased hugely. Robbie tells me, 'I have a great time at Mrs Swinton's house. We do lots of fun things!
Megan really struggled with getting her thoughts down on paper. She's a bright child, so this was very frustrating for her. The time Megan has spent with Mrs Swinton has not only helped Megan's literacy skills tremendously but has given Megan her confidence back. Megan was recently short-listed for a writing competition, which is a massive achievement for a child who thought her story writing was 'rubbish'. Best of all, she really enjoys each lesson and looks forward to going every week!
Many thanks for your patience with Harry. Your efforts have really helped his progress. The main comment I can make to parents with dyslexic teens is that quite often the lack of confidence that dyslexia causes can manifest in teens as bad attitude and it's quite hard to differentiate! I think that Harry often doesn't want to participate for fear of looking stupid and will try any avoidance technique to get out of the situation. Thanks for your support with Harry, I know he's not easy to motivate.
I am totally amazed at how my seven-year-old has made progress after only six months' tuition from Holly. In late September, she was struggling to keep up in a 'second set' group in school and now, in March, has sat the extension SATs paper!
Holly is wonderful; such great fun, understanding, exciting and with an innate ability to form close bonds with her tutees. I can wholeheartedly recommend her to any parent wanting that extra boost for their child at any level. My daughter started with Holly in Year 6. Leading up to her SATs, we wanted to ensure that she got a good results in English and Maths, so she would be in the higher sets when she went to secondary school. She did get really good SAT results and this put her into the top set for Maths and English in secondary school. The lessons with Holly were in a relaxed atmosphere and on a one-to-one basis. Regular feedback on my child's progress was great and Holly was committed my daughter's progress.
My 9-year-old daughter was struggling badly with Maths and no real progress was being seen at school or with homework. Holly worked with her over a number of months, introducing new methods and how to grasp basic concepts. This gave my daughter the real confidence she just needed to tackle the subject head on. Her progress has been marked and she has moved onto more demanding material; a success all round.
Holly came highly recommended. She worked tirelessly with Ben to ensure the fundamentals were all in place to help him progress. Ben has progressed with amazing pace and our thanks go to Holly for her wonderful technique and patience. Ben achieved excellent end of term grades as he moves into Year 8.
