Personal Message
I have been an EFL tutor for 4 years, offering lessons that are fun as well as targeted to an individual's needs. Pronunciation and accent-reduction a speciality. As an English graduate (MA, Oxon) I also love to share my love of language!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Cambridge First Certificate (FCE) and Certificate of Advanced English (CAE).
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a degree in English Language and Literature from Oxford University and a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA).
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been tutoring for the past four years, specialising in preparing French students to pass the Classes Préparatoire aux Grandes Écoles.
How much do you charge?
I charge £25 per hour for FCE and £28 per hour for CAE and EFL lessons. An initial half hour consultation is free. Discounts are offered for groups, according to the number of pupils. A charge of 11 pence per mile will be added to the hourly rate if you wish to be taught in your own home.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home, or at the student's home (subject to mileage charge) and cover areas surrounding Tenterden, Ashford, Tunbridge Wells and Hastings.
When are you available?
I am available term-time weekdays, except Thursday mornings. A few evening and weekend classes are also available.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach pupils aged 16 and over, from Pre-Intermediate to Advanced.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for FCE, CAE, and CPGE (Economic, Scientific, Literary and Humanities)
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do not have a DBS Certificate.
Where and with whom did you train?
I completed my CELTA course at St. Giles International, Brighton.
Tell me about some of your current students.
One of my recent pupils was an Advanced student preparing for a Business Studies course at one of the Grand Écoles in Paris. We worked on sentence structure and achieving a natural use of English; pronunciation; speaking and listening skills; as well as consolidating grammar knowledge and expanding knowledge of idiomatic English.
Another recent student needed much more work on grammar, and was preparing for the Literary course, with a specific interest in history. For this pupil I tailored texts to meet their area of interest, and concentrated on clarifying the use of tenses before moving on to studying more idiomatic language.
Do you have a personal message for students?
English can seem difficult, but effective language lessons are more than just learning grammar. There is also a great amount of fun to be had, and my pupils can expect lessons to be enjoyable as well as uniquely tailored to meet their individual needs.
