Personal Message
I am a qualified, approachable and professional tutor with twelve years teaching experience. I am friendly and patient and I believe in building a student's confidence to help them achieve their potential.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I am qualified to teach:

- Chemistry and Biology to Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level
- General and Applied Science to Key Stage 3 and GCSE

I also have experience of teaching:

- Science and Maths to primary aged pupils
- Maths to Key Stage 3 and GCSE
- English as an Additional Language
Tell me about your qualifications.
My first degree is a Master of Chemistry with Biology (MChem hons). I achieved this at the University of Liverpool in 2004.

I then achieved my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at the University of Nottingham in 2006.
What kind of experience do you have?
For the last twelve years I have taught:

- Chemistry and Biology to Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level (in a secondary school environment)
- General and Applied Science to Key Stage 3 and GCSE (in a secondary school environment)
- A range of examination boards, including AQA, OCR, Edexcel and also the IGCSE qualification
- In both a comprehensive and an independent school
- One-to-one private tutoring sessions to secondary students finding Chemistry, Biology and Science a challenge
- One-to-one private tutoring sessions to students needing to achieve the highest A Level Chemistry and Biology grades for entry into Medicine and Oxbridge
- One-to-one private tutoring sessions to primary aged pupils seeking help in Mathematics and Science

As well as teaching and private tutoring I also work as an Examiner so I have an additional insight into exam preparation and marking.

One of my roles at the independent school was to mark entry examinations, so I am able to prepare students for these exams.

Before qualifying as a teacher I volunteered for Eon's Right to Read Programme, helping primary aged pupils with literacy. I also volunteered in a Special Needs Sixth Form, helping pupils with writing, reading, science, mathematics and skills such as cooking.

I worked as a Research Scientist for GlaxoSmithKline during my industrial placement year at university. I frequently draw on this application of Chemistry and Biology to stretch and challenge pupils wanting to achieve the highest grades for university entry.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour and give discounts for siblings and small group lessons.
Where do you teach?
I teach from home, as well as in students' homes throughout Birmingham, Solihull and surrounding areas.
When are you available?
I teach evenings and weekends throughout the year.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I tutor both primary and secondary aged pupils.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for A Levels, GCSEs, Entry Examinations and SATS.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I received an Enhanced CRB check both when I qualified to become a teacher and also when I started teaching in a secondary school.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
If you live outside of the West Midlands please contact me to discuss my distance learning programme.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Throughout my time at University and in my teaching career I have formed links with Salters, The Royal Society of Chemistry, Society for General Microbiology, the General Teaching Council and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers.

Here are some testimonials from recent students (they are happy to be contacted if you wish to speak to them further):

Ellie has been a fantastic tutor for me! She has always been available, very patient and friendly and has really helped me to get a grasp on A level Chemistry studies, and has helped me achieve the grades i've needed as well as improving my confidence for the subject! Ellie has always been very supportive and has a brilliant way of breaking down the most complex aspects of the subject into manageable sections. She's a lovely person, very intelligent and has a genuine enthusiam for chemistry and is always there for you and ready to help! I couldn't have done it without her! I'd recommend her to anyone! Hannah

Ellie is an absolutely excellent tutor in every respect. She is very patient, totally reliable, inspires confidence and is extremely knowledgeable. She is very good at making really complex subjects easy to understand, so much so that I am now planning to continue my chemistry A level studies. I would not hesitate to ask for her assistance again and already plan to see her again in October. She is very approachable and immediately puts you at ease. I could not have wished for a better tutor. Emma

I have now been taught by Ellie within the school environment and through tutoring. She is a lovely kind hearted person who knows the ins and outs of all exams. With plenty of resources, experience and help to give you, I would go as far as saying Ellie is one of the best teachers I have had. Ellie is 100% dedicated and will help you strive to achieve your goals, whatever they may be. I highly recommend Ellie to anyone looking for a tutor. Sophie

Dear Ellie - we've just got the results and he achieved his A. We cannot thank you enough for what you have done for him. Ravi

Hi Ellie, just to let you know I got an A overall in Chemistry and would like to thank you for helping me achieve it. There is no way I could have got that without you. I am looking forward to taking my gap year and applying for Medicine next year. Simran

Ellie really helps you understand the course content and answers all the questions you have. She provides you with so much help in the way of past papers and detailed specifications. Ellie is also really good when it comes to fitting more lessons in near exam time. This was really helpful and she was very reassuring for my exams. Alice

After a rough year 12 we sought Chemistry tuition. After one lesson with Ellie it is lovely to see the glimpse of positivity back in our son. Adrian

Ellie could always find a way to explain so that the topic could be understood and easy to grasp. And she was always able to answer my questions (and I had a lot of questions!) Amy

I really can't recommend Ellie highly enough - she has transformed Y10 GCSE Core Science for our 15 year old son. Luckily for us, Ellie is available to tutor our son through Y11, too, and we are so relieved about this and he is very happy, too. Thanks Ellie. Jess

Hi Ellie, I just wanted to let you know he has secured a place at Medical School. You were instrumental in his journey. The Sembis

Ellie is a very professional tutor whose lessons bring the learning experience outside the classroom, tailored to her students’ needs. She is an amazing teacher with great empathy and patience for her students. Her unique and innovative teaching methods have tremendously helped our daughter achieve exceptional results in her mocks. Ellie has no doubt proven to be a vital resource to our daughter’s GCSE Chemistry. We’re so glad to have found her. Nabeel

Ellie has been absolutely invaluable to my daughters GCSE Chemistry and in Lucy's words "It was like someone had switched the light on". Now instead of being scared of Chemistry she wants to do it at A Level as she knows with Ellie by her side she can achieve the results she needs. I actually wish Ellie did more subjects and we'd have her for so much more! I doubt I could give higher praise for a tutor! Amanda

Ellie is an exceptional tutor and has boosted by daughters confidence significantly in all sciences. She is fully committed, always making time do us and ensures that my daughter understands everything before moving on. Ellie has been tutoring my daughter Kerina, only for a short period of time however I have noticed that my daughter has significantly improved in chemistry, biology and physics and feels a lot more confident towards her upcoming GCSE's because she has had the help and support from Ellie. She goes through each topic in detail and makes sure that Kerina understands everything before moving on to the next topic, she is very committed and nothing is too much trouble for her. Thank you for everything Ellie! Punita

Exceptional tutor! Real progress evident due to Ellie's superb knowledge, ideal pace of lessons, meticulous planning and detailed feedback with additional homework activities set. My daughter was reticent about having a tutor but has now achieved really well in her mocks - and has always thoroughly enjoyed her sessions with Ellie - she really builds confidence and motivates! Sarah

If you need an excellent Science tutor, look no further than Ellie. I can't recommend her highly enough - Josh has come on leaps and bounds and already passed Core Science GCSE thanks to Ellie. Ms Moss

Ellie has tutored my son for his GCSE examinations and this academic year, for his AS exams in Chemistry. Ellie's tuition has been outstanding and she has helped him to achieve incredible results, but more importantly she has fostered a love of the subject and encouraged him to believe in himself. I can't recommend her highly enough!! Helen

Ellie is really a fantastic teacher. Her teaching is amazing excellent. Its been 7 months now my daughter started class with Ellie, its a great pleasure to say that my daughter really enjoys her class. She is so motivated to go the class. And my daughter has moved up to the top scorer in Chemistry and Biology, I would definitely say after joining Ellie. Thank you Ellie for your help. Manjula

I decided to book Ellie for my A2 exams after needing to resit. After having gone through many chemistry teachers I can honestly I found the best- if only I found her sooner! I have learnt so much so quickly. Ellie is very patient and makes you understand in a way that suits you. Since starting with her I look forward to studying chemistry and enjoy completing the exam questions she sets. Ellie is very knowledgable about the exam board so can tailor the content needed, and most importantly she is so supportive. I would recommend her to anyone! Anika

Both myself and my brother have had Ellie for AS and A2 tuition. She has proved to be hugely knowledgable and you can ask any question and she is able to answer without hesitation. She structures the lessons to our individual needs, is very patient and ensures our understanding by setting exam questions. Having experienced various tutors, I can honestly say Ellie is by far the best! She is so encouraging, so kind and we both look forward to her tutoring sessions. We have both learnt so much in such a short space of time and thoroughly recommend her to any student looking for extra support in chemistry! Cara and Alex

I have been having extra chemistry tuition with Ellie since September in preparation for my A Level's in the summer. I have found Ellie to be extremely knowledgeable but also able to explain things in varying ways, ensuring I always gain a sound understanding. She always follows up the lesson with relevant exam questions which ensures the content of the lesson is reinforced. Right from our first lesson Ellie has put me at ease enabling me to ask any questions I may have. She has a very reassuring and patient way of teaching, and has really boosted my confidence in a short period of time. I would honestly have no hesitation in recommending Ellie to anyone needing additional chemistry support! Megan

Miss Ellie does a wonderful job in teaching chemistry from what I have seen so far. I love that you have your own techniques in teaching the different concepts of the subject which makes it so much more easy and understandable. As well as that i also learn so much in a short amount of time and I got to clarify so many specific doubts and problems! It's also great how the flexible to what I want to learn and not just fixed! Once again, I think miss Ellie does a wonderful job, I would definitely recommend her !!! Sanjana

I have found Ellie to be very caring and accommodating, reorganising her timetable to incorporate our busy lives. Academically, she is very current and aware of the requirements of the various examination board’s. She also has the ability to, 'switch on the light of understanding’, in the minds of her students Dr. GW, Solihull
When I first visited Ellie, my mind was full of individual jigsaw pieces. At the end of the lesson, the picture in my mind was complete. LW, Solihull
Do you have a personal message for students?
I thoroughly enjoy motivating my students and my passion is teaching students of all abilities. My students tell me I help them to enjoy learning and to break down complex information into more manageable sections. As well as preparing students for examinations I try to inspire them to apply their knowledge beyond the focus of exams. I strongly believe that learning should be enjoyable and accessible to everyone.

I understand how daunting it can be for parents and students to begin tuition so I am more than happy for parents to stay during my lessons.

I can provide references and testimonials from my previous students and the schools I have worked for, as well as an enhanced CRB check.

I am happy to set homework, mark examination papers and give detailed feedback, as well as organise additional lessons during examination periods.
