About Maria
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching English for 30 years with high success rates. I prepare students for common entrance exams at 11 plus and 13 plus creating interactive online learning experiences. Tutoring young students from China, Russia, the Middle East and South America demonstrates my excellent intercultural skills.

- Where and with whom did you train?
I completed my Masters in Education with teaching professionals from around the world at the Institute of Education, London which was ranked first in the 2018 QS World University rankings.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Student A- Year 7 student from China, writing and comprehension skills. Student A doubled his written homework after a couple of weeks. He uses a wide range of vocabulary, structures his work neatly and uses adjectives and other language techniques.He is more confident when answering comprehension questions with higher grades.He spends time reading English novels in his spare time which he found difficult before.
Student B-Year 8 student from China has been focusing on creative writing.Her confidence and output has increased.She can now use punctuation and sentence structure to create tension to her writing which is now of a high level. Minor grammar mistakes have also been rectified.
Student C-Year 6 Chinese student preparing for Winchester College has worked on many 11+ vocabulary and comprehension activities. The rapport created between us in the online classroom around his interest in football acted as catalyst as he's completed homework tasks at an extremely high level.
Student D- Year 6 Chinese student preparing for Wycombe Abbey has completed high level comprehension tasks. Her written work especially when using metaphors, similes and imagery is exceptionally competent
Petra - Published Children's Book Illustrator and Author - I met Petra when she first came to the UK with Beginner Level English and supported her at Degree and Masters level in Fine Art and Book Illustration. A regular exhibitor at the Bologna Children's Book Fair her first children's book will be published this year.
Yiannis - After an intense course obtained 8 at IELTS and is now studying for a Masters.

I am a qualified teacher with an excellent track record of preparing students for a range of English Language, Literature exams and English as a Second Language exams (GCSE, IELTS, FCE, B1,13+ Common Entrance).

I teach English Language, Literature and English as a Second Language. My expertise lies in preparing students online for Common Entrance exams at 11 plus and 13 plus for entry into high ranking and prestigious public schools in the UK.

- How much do you charge?
I charge £50 per hour - this includes high level resources and extensive homework feedback. I do offer discount for 2 lessons per week

I teach at my students' houses and online.

Weekdays 2pm -8pm
Weekends 11 a.m -5 pm
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages. The majority of my students are in year 6, preparing for the 11+ exam and year 8 for Common Entrance at 13+.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare my students for 11+, 13+ Common Entrance Exam, GCSE English and a range of English as a Second Language exams.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am quite flexible and tutor online in the times shown above. I use Zoom and Skype. I create high quality power point presentations with a variety of interactive games e.g. vocabulary matching, creative writing games and comprehension activities. The students can show homework via screen sharing for immediate feedback.

I am an experienced, enthusiastic and creative tutor who is committed to establishing supportive relationships with students. I'm an excellent communicator and will make a unique programme to suit and motivate students.My lessons are interesting and relevant with a variety of teaching methods. I will give you regular feedback and together we will work on preparing you to achieve the highest grade in your exam and enable you to feel more confident with your writing.
