Help offered with GCSE English Language and Literature by a well qualified, experienced teacher who is also a Senior Marker with one of the most popular examination boards.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach English Language and Literature, Latin, French and Maths.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a PGCE from Cambridge University and a BA Honours from Leeds University. I attended The Belvedere School in Liverpool where I gained 9 GCSEs and 4 A Levels.
What kind of experience do you have?
I've tutored and taught in secondary schools for 10 years, and examined for 5.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour for online or face to face tuition.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home but do travel to students' homes in exceptional circumstances. My base is in Kirkby Lonsdale which is handy for Cumbria, Lancashire and North Yorkshire. I also have a base in Sedbergh. Both Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale are easily accessible from the M6 and Kendal, so I see students from all over South Lakeland and North Lancashire. I am willing to travel up to 20 miles if time and fuel are paid for.
When are you available?
I am available all days by arrangement.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all secondary age range, and specialise in GCSE.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for GCSE, various boards.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I hold an up-to-date DBS and am registered with the Update Service.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I tutor online or at my home.
Where and with whom did you train?
I trained as a secondary teacher at the University of Cambridge with the Classics Department.
Do you have a personal message for students?
English in schools is distinctively different from other subjects - if there was a league table for subjects that makes students think 'I don't know what you want me to do...', English would be at the top of it. As Sam says in 'Holes', I can fix that.
