About Sophie
- What kind of experience do you have?
As an artist, I am currently learning how to code and programme at MadLab's Art+Tech Accelerator programme, a £1m national programme funded by Arts Council England and Innovate UK. I have been the successful recipient of a Grants for the Arts, selcted for a masterclass at Zabludowich Collection, London, and winner of several awards, for example, Ikon Gallery, Birmingham.
I have previously worked with a GCSE Art student by help them to prepare for their final exam, and improve their on their sketchbook in line with AQA guidelines. I also deliver group art and photography lessons for NCS The Challenge, in summer holidays and half-terms for groups of 16-18 year olds. I have previously delivered Life Drawing sessions at a project space I used to manage, and am very active in critical debates around work with my peers and studio holders.
I have delivered acoustic guitar lessons for students of varying abilities, from complete novices to more advanced, I devise personalised lessons to match each student's skill set and ability. I have been playing acoustic guitar for 10 years, and used to perform at gigs and open mic nights.
I have previously delivered a Digital Media course for 16-18 year olds who have become disengaged with education, and a Skills Support course for people aged 19 and over. I also have experience with working with children aged 5 to 16 when I taught as a gymnastics coach. I have a lot of experience working with youths who do not feel comfortable with mainstream education, and therefore I use my creative input and activities to engage with people who may struggle academically, and find new ways of seeing things and learning by taking lateral approaches.
As a Fine Art Graduate, I have a great deal of experience in critical discussions, and collaborating with other artists as well as working on my individual practice.
My own practice involves mainly involves video, video installation, photography and sculpture, although I also have knowledge and experience in painting, drawing and print making.
My studio organises Life Drawing workshops which I contribute to organising and delivering, and I am involved in organising exhibitions, projects, artist collaborations and marketing.
I play the acoustic guitar and have done so since 2006. I play regularly and have been trained by folk musicians to cover a variety of techniques and styles. From complete novices to intermediates, I can teach a variety of styles, from strums to advanced finger picking. For those wanting to get acquainted with traditional folks songs, to those wanting to get to grips with more advanced styles, I can cover a broad spectrum of styles, songs and techniques.
