About Flavia
- What kind of experience do you have?
My teaching experience ranges from individual flute and German lessons, to group classes of 2-10 people. As part of my course at the Guildhall I have worked in community music projects alongside the LSO.
As a German teacher I have helped prepare GCSE examinations, start complete beginners at different ages and continue lessons with students who have had some experience in the past. Even though I like working from specific learning material in both subjects, I am happy to adapt to each students' level and preferences.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I do.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I hold a BMus (HONS) from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a Masters in performance from the Royal College of Music. My flute teachers have included Sarah Newbold, Philippa Davies, Ian Clarke, Katy Bircher, Rachel Brown and Lisa Beznosiuk. My secondary education took place at specialist music schools: Chetham's School of Music (with Laura Jellicoe), C. Ph. E. Bach Musikgymnasium in Berlin.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am an ISM member.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
The level of my flute students currently ranges all the way from absolute beginner to grade 8. Non of my students has ever failed an exam, and the majority passes with merit or distinction.

More about me: (concealed information)
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the Flute, Baroque Flute and Recorder as well as Music Theory. I can also teach German up to A-Level standard, or German conversation. I am happy to conduct the lessons in either German or English.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I am a flautist with a BMus(hons) Degree and a Postgraduate Degree from the Guildhall School of Music, as well as a Masters Degree from the Royal College of Music in London.
I was born and raised in Berlin and moved to the UK 11 years ago. I am half British and half German and fluent in both languages.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £45 per hour. This hourly rate applies when I travel to my students for the lesson - it is less when I teach from home.
For small group lessons I charge the stated amount per hour plus £5 extra for every child.
The payment is made at the beginning of the month. Cancellations 24 hours in advance are perfectly acceptable and will allow me to re-schedule the lesson. If it occurs less than 24 hours in advance, I can not guarantee a different time and will still have to charge for the lesson.
- Where do you teach?
I teach either at home or at my pupil's houses.
- When are you available?
I am available during term time and holidays, given adequate notice.
Thanks to my flexible timetable as a freelance musician and teacher, I can offer lessons at various times during the week and at weekends.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am happy to teach students of any age or standard.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
On the flute and the recorder I am happy to prepare students for ABRSM or Trinity graded examinations.
In German lessons I am happy to help with preparation for GCSE or A-Level exams.
For beginner German students I recommend working with 'studio d' A1 published by Cornelsen, which prepares students for internationally accepted German Qualifications.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can give the occasional lesson via Skype, if we feel it is necessary or practical at the time. However, the majority of the time I teach in person.
