I offer flute and music theory lessons in Sheffield for children and adults, from complete beginners to advanced students and players returning after a break. I love helping people to learn, improve and enjoy their playing.

I teach flute (plus piccolo and alto flute) and music theory.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have experience of teaching a range of students, from young beginners to adult returners. I regularly perform solo, with chamber music groups, orchestras, pit bands for shows and for recording sessions. I run Sheffield Flute Choir, a group for adult amateur flute players. I put on regular workshops and informal concerts for my students, and organise flute events in Sheffield.

I have written published content for organisations, including universities, and worked as an online tutor/ mentor, advising students on the structure and content of written material for assignments. I have extensive experience of academic writing in music, philosophy and linguistics, including papers accepted for international conferences.
How much do you charge?
Flute and music theory in person: Initial trial lessons and one-off/ ad hoc lessons are charged at £30 per hour. For regular students, I work on a monthly ‘subscription’ payment for lessons. You pay the same amount every month, regardless of how many weeks are in each month, to spread your payments evenly across the year. Further details can be found on my website.

Distance learning music theory: £50 per month for unlimited online support.

Academic writing support: fees start from £50 for a one-off session; £70 per month for ongoing support (see my website for further details).
Where do you teach?
Flute and music theory: I will travel to you, anywhere within the Sheffield city area (I'm not currently able to teach at home). I also teach fortnightly from a venue in North East Derbyshire - about half an hour's drive from Chesterfield, Dronfield, Matlock, Worksop, Mansfield, Bakewell. Contact me for more details.
I also teach music theory online.
Academic writing support: online.
When are you available?
Weekdays - daytime and evenings. Lessons are normally weekly or fortnightly, but I can also offer flexibility for people who can't make a regular day/ time. Please contact me with your location and suitable days/ times, and I'll let you know my current availability.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages - children and adults, from complete beginners to diploma level. I have a student flute available for beginners to try, and can advise on buying or hiring an instrument. I teach music theory up to ABRSM Grade 8 level, and am happy to take on players of any instrument for theory lessons.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
For students who want to take exams, I can help you prepare for ABRSM, Trinity or LCM flute exams. I teach music theory up to ABRSM Grade 8.
I provide support for the written submission sections of ABRSM, Trinity and LCM Teaching and Performance diplomas, LCM Thesis diplomas, and University level academic work.

Yes, I have a DBS Enhanced Certificate.
