Personal Message
As a professional flautist it gives me great pleasure to see my students' passion for flute playing. I am the flautist in The Thursford Christmas Spectacular, the Meritus Collective and the Marais Duo as well as freelancing around the country.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the flute, piccolo, alto flute and music theory. I have taught beginners and advanced players of all ages. I am able to teach graded exams/diplomas but if students want to learn purely as a hobby this is absolutely fine too.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have an ABRSM Dip in teaching.
I have an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma (3 year course) from Trinity College of Music, London.
I studied undergraduate music at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and gained a BMus First Class Honors degree.
I took a module in musical workshop leadership at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
At Trinity College of Music I took an elective in Creative Education.
Before my undergraduate degree I took grade 8 in Flute and also in Singing - I passed both with distinction and find the link between singing and flute playing very useful. I have grade 8 Piano and grade 8 in Music Theory.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a private flute teacher throughout my higher education training - and have over 10 years of private teaching experience, also teaching music theory. I have also given many outreach projects in workshops throughout cardiff and London. I am used to teaching children as well as adults. I teach for Tower Hamlet Arts and Music Education Service, The Frederick Bremer School and I am woodwind specialiat at The Pembroke Academy of Music. I have worked at Swanlea School, London and KEGS in Chelmsford. I am used to teaching in small groups, large groups and one-to-one.
How much do you charge?
I charge 35 pounds per hour. For half an hour the charge is £17:50.
Where do you teach?
I am based in Chelmsford in Essex and Abergavenny in Monmouthshire. I am able to teach in my house which is situated near Chelmsford centre and also at a beautiful property overlooking the Blorenge mountain in Abergavenny, Wales. Please enquire for details.
When are you available?
Due to the flexible nature of my career, I am able to negotiate the best times for both student and myself.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all levels of flute playing, from beginners to advanced - post grade 8 and diploma. I am happy to teach all ages, children and adults.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare my students for ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) exams and Trinity Guildhall exams. But am also very happy to teach a student who does not want to take exams.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
The Incorporated Society of Musicians
Where and with whom did you train?
I trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Eva Stewart, Joanna Shaw, Jonathan Burgess and Nic Dowton. At Trinity College of Music I trained with Anna Noakes and Alan Baker. I have played in masterclasses with James Galway, Phillippa Davies, Karen Jones, Sam Coles, Paul Edmund Davies, Jonathan Snowden, Mike Mower, Wil Offermans and Susan Milan.
Do you have a personal message for students?
