About Gemma
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have worked with children of all ages for over 6 years in various contexts, including in whole-class teaching, individual teaching, child-minding and homework tutoring. I began playing violin at the age of 6 and then began learning the viola aged 11. I have been a member of many orchestras, including the Bromley Youth Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, and also the National Children's Orchestra.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a clean Enhanced DBS certificate. Proof available to be shown at consultation lesson.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach children ranging from age 3 to 15 years old, and also teach an adult pupil. In our lessons we cover a range of aspects, including technical development, musicianship and repertoire. Two of my pupils are preparing for their ABRSM exams, and I use the syllabus as a framework for these lessons. Many of my pupils have come to me as beginners, and show constant progress throughout the year. Many have gained improved levels of self-confidence, as well as a rewarding skill.

I am a dedicated musician, currently working towards a Primary PGCE at Goldsmith's University. I have obtained a Music degree and LTCL teaching diploma, and I have had much experience working with children aged between 2 years old and 18 years old.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach both Viola and Violin to children and adults of any age, and I can also include some music theory in my instrumental lessons.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
BMus (Hons) Performance Degree
LTCL Teaching Diploma
AS and A Levels in Music, Maths and ICT.
GCSEs in Music, Maths, English, Science, ICT, Italian, Art and Geography.
Grade 8 Viola.
Grade 5 Music Theory.
I am in the process of gaining a BMus degree in Music and also the LTCL Teaching qualification.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £30 per hour of teaching, half hour lessons will be charged at £15.00 each. Travel expenses are negotiable dependent on distance travelled.
- Where do you teach?
I am willing to teach either in my own home in Greenwich, or in a pupil's home as well, dependent on distance again.
- When are you available?
I am available any time on a weekend. I am also often available during school holidays should there be a need for extra lessons outside of term time.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I can teach pupils of any age or ability up to Grade 8.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can arrange for pupils to prepare for ABRSM exams, but I can also provide them with performance opportunities, should they prefer this to taking exams.
