Learn to enjoy playing the violin/viola!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the Violin and Viola. I can also coach for musical theory and aural tests.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the Juilliard School of Music in New York.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching the violin for over 25 years. I have also had a busy and varied career as a freelance performer, working in symphony and chamber orchestras, ensembles and recording for films and backing pop groups etc as well as playing with well know light music musicians such as Frank Sinatra.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 for an hour. I can teach children under 14 for 45 minutes, in which case I will charge £26.
Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach at my own home, but can travel to students' homes if necessary. This would depend on the time/day of the lesson and various other matters.
The nearest tube station to me is East Finchley, which is on the Northern Line and is about 6 minutes walk from my house. There is parking space in my street.
When are you available?
I am very flexible about times of lessons. If necessary they can be arranged differently each week. The only limitations would be the times already booked by other students. I can give lessons on any day of the week from 9.30 am to 10.00pm.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach beginners to advanced levels.
I teach ages 6ish to 66ish.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
If necessary, I can prepare pupils for grade exams or any other performance based music exams.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have never taught at institutions where this would be required.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I belong to the Musicians' Union.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied with some very fine, well known violinists including (in New York) the highly acclaimed teacher, Dorothy DeLay.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I prefer to keep their details confidential.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I hope to help you to enjoy playing the violin/viola. I adjust my style of teaching according to your individual needs.
