Personal Message
I can teach all ages and levels on clarinet. I teach in a relaxed and calm manner, but can push the student if required. After many years of professional playing and teaching experience, I can tailor the lesson to the needs of the student.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Clarinet as well as Grade 5 Theory. I can do this in person, or by Skype
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied at Hull University then the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where I completed a BMus (1st class) then a Postgraduate Diploma (Distinction) on clarinet. I have several performing diplomas too, including DipABRSM, ATCL, LTCL and LLCM
What kind of experience do you have?
I have played professionally for several years after graduation, including working with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera and the Royal Philarmonic Concert Orchestra. I have experience of playing in all the major concert halls in England and Wales, performing orchestral, chamber, contemporary and opera programmes. I taught at Junior and Senior levels at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama on clarinet as well as lecturing Aural training and other academic lectures. I have taught in several independent schools in Bristol, Monmouth and Chepstow before moving to London in 2008, where I am performing and teaching privately.
How much do you charge?
£36.00 for 60 mins, £27.00 for 45 mins and £20.00 for 30 mins in cash only.
Where do you teach?
I will travel to teach at your home. I can also teach by Skype. I drive to Ruislip, Pinner, Northwood, Uxbridge, Ickenham, Hillingdon, Eastcote, and anywhere else within 15 minutes from West Ruislip!
When are you available?
My times are flexible, around my playing job which is based in Ruislip. I will try to work around you, but it will inevitably be a different time/day each week.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages, from beginner to advanced (to Conservatoire level), regularly or for one-off, and Grade 5 Theory.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM and Trinity exams and ABRSM Theory
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do not do any teaching in school due to my job requirements, but have security clearance for my job - Royal Air Force Central Band
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Skype is possible if you need tuition at your convenience but not in your location. Other tuition an be arranged via Q&A sessions and narrative advice using email or phone.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am currently Principal Clarinet of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, perceived internationally as perhaps the best UK military band!

at Hull University, then to finish off my BMus at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where I completed a Postgrad. I learned clarinet with John Reynolds - ex-Kent Opera and Rob Plane - Northern Sinfonia and BBC NOW, E flat clarinet with John Cooper - BBC NOW and Bass clarinet with Peter Fielding - Welsh National Opera.
