Many years of private tuition
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
No.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I did my teacher training (PGCE) in Thames Polytechnic and during this time I taught in a variety of secondary schools for boys, girls or mixed, comprehensive
and faith schools. I also observed Primary School Teaching and taught voluntarily in St Cyprian Greek Primary School for 3 months.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I choose 2 of my students: Learner A is a 14 year old that I have been teaching since his early years in primary school. He hopes to sit his GCSE exam in a couple of years. He is not that keen on doing homework but keeps it up because he doesn't get bored and learns enough in the lessons. We learned some tricky grammar that went down well as we talked about his dog he adored and, drew and discussed his family tree. I took a year's break to study in Germany. He already had a tutor but I was happy and of course flattered he decided to resume his lessons with me.
Learner B is a retired lady who enjoys learning and believes in keeping both body and mind regularly exercised. We study the songs her teacher uses in teaching her dance group she goes to, read books in the original e.g. Victoria Hislop's "The Last Dance and Other Stories", comics on theTrojan War, the exploits of Hercules and Theseus and now Theodora. I prepare activities to help her in her reading and increase her grasp of grammar and syntax. She has a keen interest in etymology. She is amazed to find out how many words she knew in English happen to be Greek and her vocabulary keeps increasing. We also use our course book when it is called for. We have both been enjoying our lessons and time we spend together for many years.
