What kind of experience do you have?
Native speaker of Greek and qualified teacher, I have worked as a Greek tutor and GCSE examiner in the UK and Greece. My additional experience as a Violin and EFL teacher in both countries at various language schools and summer schools has given me valuable insight on students' needs and interests.

My lessons are communicative and include all skills, with emphasis on building up students` confidence in speaking. Due to my vast experience in the education sector, I have the ability to address my students` interests and adapt to their needs from the very first lesson. As I teach all sorts of nationalities, cultural references is one of the most important components of my lessons as it is proven to be an enjoyable and most effective learning strategy. I have a wide range of material to choose from, including video, audio, flashcards and other games. I always try to incorporate music in my lessons, as it has been proven to be a major facilitator of the language learning process.

My students benefit from my knowledge of music and experience as music educator as I can easily connect learning language to Greek fun songs. This helps them learn and memorise specific language areas, such as vocabulary, phrases, numbers, or idioms. I believe the use of music in language learning is an invaluable tool for all ages.

Tell me about some of your current students.
Currently I am preparing students for GCSE and A-level exams and am delivering lessons to adults who want to start learning or improve their Greek.

I have short-term students, who afterwards were able to use their Greek on their very first visit to Greece or Cyprus, as well as long-term students whose progress and enjoyment I am excited to witness in our lessons. They are all passionate about learning the language and in our lessons they are encouraged to use it from the very beginning.

I have also been a GCSE examiner.

I have many students who take up short or longer courses before they visit Greece or Cyprus so that they establish a level of communication with the locals. The online lessons are the most appropriate way to carry out these courses are they are time and cost effective. A variety of online tools and interactive material makes the sessions fun and productive. On top of speaking practice, I provide audio and video material for further practice later in all skills.

I am tutoring students in intensive courses preparing them for different types of GCSE exams (Edexcel, GCE AS etc).

I have British adult students who have been visiting Greece for a number of years and wish to learn/develop their Greek in order to improve their communication with the locals.

One of my students is married to a Greek person and is learning Greek so that she can communicate better with her husband, his family and friends.

With an Italian student who visits Greece regularly for holidays, I have completed most of the chapters from a series of books available for adults and am now planning my own lessons using mainly the internet as a resource. Cultural references, idioms and sayings constitute an essential and fun element in our sessions!

With a boy aged 5, born and raised in London, second generation Greek, I work on building their confidence in speaking mainly through a variety of fun activities, such as games, songs, role-playing, flash-cards, story-telling.

With a boy (Primary) and his sister (Secondary), second generation, I follow the Greek Curriculum and the books provided by the Greek Ministry of Education supplementing with extra material when necessary. All skills implemented.

With an adult of Cypriot origin, I construct my lessons in a way so that speaking covers around 90% of the session. The material we use include everyday prompts, magazines, online websites, videos and we also follow a coursebook especially designed for adults learning Greek as a foreign language.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Learning languages opens up exciting opportunities. Speaking Greek is a challenging, but incredibly rewarding, experience!
