About Matthew
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have twenty five years experience playing gigs, concerts and theatre, in ensembles and solo.
In this time I have facilitated group workshops and taught many private students.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do not have an up to date DBS.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at Goldsmiths, University of London.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Musicians' Union.

Drawing on over twenty five years of performing in many different musical situations and styles, I tailor my lessons to suite the student's musical interests and needs.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach electric and acoustic steel string guitar, rock, pop, jazz, Balkan and folk styles. Classical nylon string guitar - beginner to intermediate. I can also teach Irish tenor banjo, Bulgarian tamboora, Greek bouzouki and lauto, mandolin and mandola.

I have the following qualifications:
BMus from Goldsmiths University of London
Grade 8 plectrum guitar (Trinity)
Grade 5 classical guitar (ABRSM)
Grade 7 piano (ABRSM)
- How much do you charge?
£35 p/h.
- Where do you teach?
I teach at home or can visit students at home within a reasonable travelling distance (30mins)
- When are you available?
Daytime or evenings weekdays, weekends depending on performing schedule.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
From eight to eighty! All levels welcome. If a student is too advanced I would not charge for the lesson.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I do not usually teach to formal qualifications but if the student wishes they could enter for plectrum guitar or classical ABRSBM grades.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
In my lessons I hope to transmit my enthusiasm for music and like to focus on creativity and the world of sound as well as technique, commitment, style and theory.
