Hi! My name is Helena Jacklin and I'm a french horn player!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I can teach brass instruments, Violin, music theory, and tutor people taking their GCSE and A level music.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I've been learning music for 15 years and I have a First Class Bachelor of Music (Hons) degree from the Royal College of Music, and a Distinction in Masters in Performance Postgraduate degree from the Royal College of Music.

2002 - Grade 5 Music Theory, Distinction
2005 - Grade 8 Horn, Distinction
2007 - Grade 8 Violin, Distinction
2000 - Grade 5 Theory, Distinction
What kind of experience do you have?
I have a lot of performing experience, I have been teaching people of all ages since I was 15 years old and I have taken musical workshops in schools all around the country.
How much do you charge?
I charge £40 an hour for french horn and trumpet lessons, and £30 for half an hour. For Violin, I charge £35 an hour and £25 for half hour lessons. I am happy to give you a consultation lesson at a reduced rate.
Where do you teach?
I can teach at your home, or you're welcome to come for a lesson at my house in Tunbridge Wells, within 7 minutes walking distance from the station.
When are you available?
My availability does vary from week to week however I am flexible and can normally teach any day of the week.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
Any ages.
Horn - beginner to advanced
Trumpet/tenor horn - beginner to grade 8
Violin - beginner to grade 6
Theory/Harmony - Beginner to grade 8
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can help with preparation for ABRSM and Trinity/Guildhall examinations,school exams (GCSE/A level) and any instrument-related assessment you have coming up.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Where and with whom did you train?
I attended the Purcell School of Music in 2004 aged 11 to study Horn, Violin and Piano. I was given a rounded education in academic music and studied the horn with Sue Dent. I then attended the Royal College of Music where I studied with Simon Rayner (Principal horn Opera House, Covent Garden), John Ryan (Co-Principal Horn London Philharmonic Orchestra), Jeffrey Bryant (Retired Co-Principal horn Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), Nigel Black (Principal Horn of Philharmonia Orchestra) and Timothy Jones (Principal Horn of London Symphony Orchestra).
Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach seven people, the youngest at 5 years old and the oldest at 36. I have started most as beginners and have taken people on of varying abilities.
