About Ian
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been working as a training facilitator, coach and business roleplayer in the training sector since 1998. I have worked globally with a large number of people in the business world improving their communication, sales and productivity using a practical approach that allows individuals to experience a different approach in a safe learning environment. I train people in how to present, presence and personal impact, management skills, negotiating, being more assertive, building stronger professional relationships and influencing others. I have recently been working with HSBC Bank, Pepsico, Hiscox Insurance, Boots, Herbert Smith Freehills and the General Dental Council amongst others. I am also the founding partner of an interactive training consultancy called Xperient where we specialise in designing and running lively training events for organisations in the private and public sector as well as coaching staff members as part of their personal development. In house training and practical coaching is available to companies or small groups.
I trained as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School from 1990 to 1993. My theatre career includes appearing at the London Palladium (for two West End runs), the Open Air Theatre Regents Park, the Bristol Old Vic, the Palace Theatre Watford, Cambridge Arts Theatre, the English Theatre Frankfurt, the Northcott Theatre Exeter and the New End Hampstead. I also toured nationally for the Oxford Stage Company, the Bill Kenwright Company and Royal Exchange Manchester. Memorable roles include Jimmy Beales in Roots, Snout in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Stiva in Anna Karenina, Marcel in Aspects of Love, Roger in Outside Edge, Mr Bissett in Scrooge, Mr Bumble in Oliver!, Parker in Lady Windermere's Fan, Nicely-Nicely in Guys and Dolls and comic roles in numerous traditional pantomimes. TV and film appearances include Detectorists, M.I.T., Doctors, Historyonics, Eastenders, Melissa, The Bill, Melissa, Lovejoy and The Hawk. I have also worked regularly for BBC Radio Drama.
Between 2000 and 2007, I was the owner and artistic director of Pandora's Box Theatre Company which toured musicals for children nationally. During this time, I was the writer, director and producer of six touring productions which received critical acclaim.
Since 1998, I have been a drama and singing teacher for various Stagecoach franchises. I am currently the longest serving teacher at Stagecoach Ipswich and every Saturday morning I teach all performance disciplines to children under 7 years old.

Mileage charged at 40 pence per mile for the portion of any return journey that exceeds 30 miles.
Online coaching is also available at £25.00 an hour. Skype required.
Group face-to-face sessions can be arranged - discount of 30% for 3 or more students. Students will need to supply appropriately sized venue.
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach at students' homes or at an agreed quiet venue of choice local to the student (this may involve a small additional cost). On rare occasions I can teach at my home office in Glemsford (near Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds) but this is not always convenient due to a busy family life and lots of pets.
I am willing to travel to most locations in the East Anglian counties of Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. Travel cost will be payable by students if the return journey from Glemsford exceeds 30 miles.
- When are you available?
Prefer Mondays to Fridays between 9am and 6pm, but willing to go up to 9pm in the evening and weekends during the daytime.

LAMDA and RADA examinations in drama.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Dates and times for online sessions will be fixed in advance. Students will need to have adequate VC equipment - for example, working PC, webcam and microphone.
Online sessions will be a maximum length of one hour and are available at a discount price from face-to-face sessions.
Pre-payment will be required 48 hours in advance of each session.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Please select me as a tutor or coach if you are someone who would like to or needs to get away from the theory and concentrate on the practical. I will offer you a range of challenging experiences and interactive exercises that may take you outside your normal comfort zone, but it is important to stress that I focus on your individual development needs throughout the sessions and will never make you do anything you feel will not help you in any way. You will need to come to your early sessions with a clear idea of what learning outcomes you are hoping to achieve and I will encourage you to set personal goals for yourself. As with any working relationship, it may take a few sessions to build trust and rapport and I will be led by each student about the speed of progress. Remember that we will be looking for you to make some changes, sometimes it might be your attitude or mindset, it might be your posture, facial expressions or eye contact, it might be a bad habit you have adopted during your life, BUT IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER - changes in behaviour are slow and only become habitual if constantly practised, shifts in attitude are even slower and you may never change them, but I will help you to hide those that are unhelpful.
I have experience working with disabilities and learning problems and I have personal experience as a parent of an autistic child. My flexible approach to teaching allows me to offer students of all types to learn in the way that suits them most and I have a great respect for difference.
Please don't be put off by the idea of learning through experiences rather than from books. It is recognised by a vast majority of psychologists that people only adapt if they can understand the need for change and are helped through the transition with positive reinforcement and plenty of opportunities to practise.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Mr Sanders helped my 12 year old daughter prepare for a casting for a feature film. He was very kind, helpful and we would recommend.
I recently worked with Ian for 2 hours of professional coaching. He is helping me tighten up on my interview technique, hone my presentation skills & rethink my approach to professional communication. Ian is very friendly & provides a relaxed atmosphere perfect for coaching; yet he does not shy away from posing challenging questions & giving honest direction. Ian is clearly an experienced professional.
I have tried coaching before and was fairly happy, but Ian's style offers something unique & is therefore: a) value for money, and b) effective. He is not just a talking textbook: Ian throws himself into the coaching from the beginning with practical exercises & personal, candid advice. Ian picked up on the hindrances to my progression from the outset and had a clear strategy to help me develop. It is the one time I have been grateful for homework.
Ian's approach is based on practical experience working with firms & corporations rather than recycling old clichés. Ian's experience as an actor shines through offering some effective techniques to improve self-awareness & confidence. I would fully recommend anyone at all curious about improving his or her communication to get in touch with Ian. hope to use Ian as a long term mentor, throughout the interview process & during my career.

Ian is clearly an experienced professional. He was fully attuned to current interview processes and the demands of businesses and professional organizations. Ian’s approach is based on practical experience working with firms and corporations rather than recycling old clichés. He is realistic about employers’ needs and gave me insightful guidance about how to project my ‘best self’ and take control of anxiety-inducing situations by ‘being senior.’

Ian’s experience as an actor shines through offering some effective techniques to improve self-awareness and confidence. The ultimate lesson is that in an interview, you are more in control than you think you are.
Ian is not at all pushy about signing mentees up for a second session. I would fully recommend anyone at all curious about improving his or her communication to get in touch with Ian. Personally, I have already booked my next session and am excited about making progress with Ian’s guidance.View more recommendations
