Personal Message
In my lessons I make sure that whilst students achieve their goals, they are inspired along the way.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Jazz Piano
Classical Piano
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have completed study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in jazz piano with an addition of two years of study in classical piano.
On the course I also studied composition, electronic music, arranging, classical and jazz harmony in detail.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching in London for the last 6 years to all levels of ability in both jazz and classical. At Guildhall we have been advised on how best to teach students which has helped my understanding of how best to teach. I have been part of various musical workshops for young children, working in schools both in and outside of London. I have helped on the Guildhall Jazz Summer School and worked with young musicians to perform at Barbican Centre alongside the Lincoln Centre Jazz Orchestra. I also accompany and advise jazz singers every Saturday morning on technique and how to work with jazz pianists. I'm also friends with many musicians with pupils of their own and I encourage them to meet together and play. I also work for Decca records as a classical pianist from time to time and I can send over links to recordings if requested.
How much do you charge?
£25 per half hour and £40 for an hour.
Where do you teach?
I mostly teach out of my home in Harringay which has a piano. I also travel to pupils homes in the surrounding areas.
When are you available?
Please get in contact and I'm sure we will both be able to find a time where we will be available.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach any age and any level for jazz piano and up to Grade 8 piano too.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM Classical and Jazz exams
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Musicians Union
Where and with whom did you train?
Guildhall School of Music and Drama - Malcolm Edmonstone, Barry Green, Gareth Williams, Laura Roberts, Martin Hathaway, Trevor Tomkins, Scott Stroman.
Tell me about some of your current students.
One of my students James (8 years old), who I teach in Bethnal Green, has recently passed with merit is grade 1 exam and grade 1 theory with only 1 mark deducted. He's currently training to be a chorister so we try to implement singing in his practice. Another student I've been teaching is an adult pupil called Barry, preparing him for his ABRSM piano diploma currently awaiting results! I also teach his son Rafael who has just started learning the piano.
Do you have a personal message for students?
After being taught in competitive musical environments by many different types of teachers my whole life I feel I've found a balance in my teaching between achieving short term goals and having fun.
