Personal Message
I was born in Brazil and now have dual British/Brazilian nationality. I live in the West Midlands with my British husband, who is a retired ESOL tutor who specialises in English grammar.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach both Brazilian Portuguese and the Portuguese of Portugal.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I graduated from "Universidade do Ipiranga" in São Paulo in 1986 with a degree in teaching Portuguese.
What kind of experience do you have?
I began teaching Portuguese at secondary level in a private school in Brazil. Since 2010, I have continued to teach both Brazilian Portuguese and the Portuguese of Portugal one-to-one and in small groups. In addition, I work with Portuguese-speaking primary and secondary level children in local schools, helping them to adjust to an English-speaking environment. I also act in a liaison capacity between their families and teaching staff.
How much do you charge?
£20 per hour including materials (course books are an optional extra). Discounts negotiable for fee payments in advance.
Where do you teach?
At home or by arrangement. I am willing to travel within a 15 miles radius of Coventry city centre.
When are you available?
Daytime and evening Monday to Saturday.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
Primary, secondary and adult.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
GCSE, iGCSE and GCE A and A/S level exams. I am also an approved examiner.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I have considerable experience with Skype and since I switched to fibre-optics download speed is excellent.
Tell me about some of your current students.
As at July 2017, I am regularly teaching 11 adult students in Coventry, including one married couple, who are improving their Portuguese for various personal and professional reasons. In addition, I travel to Leamington, Nuneaton and Warwick to give tuition to 3 more students, and I have one secondary level student who is studying for the Cambridge IGCSE in Portuguese. There is also a long-term student who has now returned home to Dubai but who I continue to teach by Skype – a total of 15 students.
Do you have a personal message for students?
My students are important to me and I make their needs and aspirations my priority. I try to make each lesson an enjoyable experience, which I believe fosters effective teaching, and this has also resulted in some lasting friendships.
