About Julia
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching part time in and around my studies/jobs with various pupils for the last 10 years, and have recently started to develop a more solid and regular pupil base in Leighton Buzzard with pupils coming for lessons on a regular weekly basis. I have now given up my job in London to teach full time and am really enjoying doing what I love and watching my pupils grow and develop already. My Masters degree in Community Music gave me invaluable experience of working with people from a wide range of backgrounds, as I devised workshops and went into schools to help children with musical engagement. I was the postgraduate representative for the Music Education Group whilst studying at University and enjoyed teaching young people about music during various events throughout my time there.
I worked for the London Philharmonic Orchestra for several years after graduating, in an administrative role, which gave me a deeper understanding of the professional world of music as well as giving me the opportunity to attend numerous concerts which opened my eyes and ears to different musical interpretations and ways of creating the best performance possible. I have since gone on to do more private teaching and discovered a different side of the music world which I really love - I love helping my pupils to discover music and to see the joy which it brings them as they learn more each week.

I am a fully qualified musician with many years' experience of performing and working with people. I love using my teaching skills to help my students to experience the many incredible benefits of music-making.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Piano and Violin.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I gained my Grade 8 ABRSM piano qualification in 2003 and my Grade 8 ABRSM violin qualification in 2006. After leaving school I went on to study Music, using both instruments, at the University of York, where I gained a BA(Hons) in 2010. I then stayed on for another year to study for a Masters Degree (MA) in Community Music, which I was awarded in January 2012.

30 minute lessons - £15
45 minute lessons - £22
1 hour lessons - £28
I am also happy to offer a free trial lesson for anybody who is interested but not 100% sure about whether to proceed - please do let me know if this is something you would like me to arrange for you.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from my home in Leighton Buzzard where I have a fully equipped music room including a full size piano.
- When are you available?
I currently teach Monday-Friday both during the day and evenings.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I am happy to teach pupils of all ages and currently teach a wide range of students from my youngest (aged just 3!) up to the adults whom I teach.
For piano pupils I can teach complete beginners through to advanced (Grade 8) standard, and for violin pupils I am happy to teach beginners through to intermediate (Grade 5) standard.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM exams (where pupils are interested in gaining qualifications - not everybody chooses to do so).
