Personal Message
I am a flute specialist qualified music teacher and deliver lessons from my music room at my home in Chichester, West Sussex. I am very passionate and very enthusiastic about music - in particular the flute! Feel free to book in a free trial lesson.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Primarily I teach flute (beginners to post grade 8 diploma) but I also teach clarinet (beginners to grade 5). I teach the recorder and the fife to young beginners.

What kind of experience do you have?
Teaching: Julie is very pasionate about music education and has been teaching the flute for over 15 years. She enjoys the high quality results which can be found one to one teaching. Julie trained as a secondary school music teacher at the University of Bristol gaining her PGCE and QTS status. She worked full time flute specialist peripatetic teacher for Aylesbury Music Centre, Bucks Music Service. Teaching 20 schools a week from beginners to grade 8 Julie built up a wealth of experience teaching instrumentally. In 2011 Julie moved to Chichester to start her private teaching studio. In the past few years Julie's pupils have gained music scholarships to local private schools including Prebendal School, Hurstpierpoint College and Brighton College. In February 2016 a talented pupil won the McCoy cup, the solo flute prize at the Chichester Festival of Music, Speech and Dance and reached the final of the West Sussex Youth Music Awards in 2017. She believes in one to one high quality teaching and designs her teaching to each individual student. She teaches a large number of adults throughout the week as well as children at her music room fom beginners to diploma level pupils. She uses ABRSM and Trinity College exam boards and has gained high results. Alongside her private teaching Julie works for Hampshire Music Service delivering classroom instrumental projects in primary schools.


Performing: Julie won a scholarship to study flute with Professor Graham Mayger at the Royal College of Music through her degree at Royal Holloway. She became Principle Flute of Royal Holloway Symphony Orchestra and performed Malcolm Arnold's Concerto for Flute and Strings with the orchestra. She has played for the Aeolian Wind Quintet, the Aylesbury Symphony Orchestra, the Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra, The Gala Festival Orchestra, The Myraid Chamber Orchestra, Southdowns Concert Band and has been performing solo recitals across the area as well as taking masterclasses with inernational artists. She plays on a Miyazawa flute.

Musical Director: In 2016 Julie founded Chichester Flute Choir and is their musical director. The Flute Choir perform regularly to the local community and have raised money for charity. In the past Julie has conducted the Aylesbury Music Centre Junior Flute Choir, Beginner Wind Band Winslow, Sir Henry Flloyd Grammar School Flute Ensemble, and the Brighton Hill Woodwind Ensemble.

Where do you teach?
I teach from my music room in my home in Graylingwell Park, Chichester. PO19
When are you available?
I teach in term time and then part time over the summer holidays.

Monday to Friday daytime and evenings. 9am - 7pm
Saturday mornings 8.30am - 2pm

Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages! I teach both children and adults. For younger children (in years 2 and 3) I start them on the fife.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM as well as Trinity Guildhall exams. I have helped pupils of mine gain music scholarships at the Prebendal School and also at Hurstpierpoint College.
