Personal Message
I have specialised in playing various African music, Cuban, Jazz, Reggae and Funk, but also have a degree in Classical music and have played in the folk scene.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I'm a trombonist but have been teaching all brass instruments since 1995.
Tell me about your qualifications.
BA(Hons) in Music
I have been working as a full time performer since 1995.
What kind of experience do you have?
I am most known as the trombonist from the folk band Bellowhead.
I also have long standing collaborations with the ex-Fela and Femi Kuti keyboardist Dele Sosimi in his Afro-beat Orchestra and with Kishon Khan, most recently in my own Afro-Jazz Project and in Khan's BanglaAfroLatinJazz group Lokkhi Terra. Khan and I also run a record label together called Funkiwala.
As a session player I have played with the likes of Afro-beat drum legend Tony Allen, Cuban giants Giraldo Piloto, Julito Padron and Changuito, with the two-tone band The Selecter, with the Levellers, Pandit Dinesh, Damon Albarn's Africa Express Project, Bukky Leo, Wara, Baby Akhtar and Osvaldo Chacon to name a few.
With these projects I have played in many of the major festivals and clubs around the World, including Glastonbury, Rosskilde, Montreaux Jazz Festival, Love Supreme Jazz Festival, Latitude, Bestival, Boomtown, Womad, V Festival, T in the Park, Cambridge Folk Festival, Edmonton Folk Festival, Vancouver Folk Festival, Calgary Folk Festival, Dhaka World Music Festival, Olin Kun Festival, Soundwaves Festival Croatia, Royal Albert Hall, Barbican, Festival Hall, Ronnie Scott's, London Palladium, The Sage, Shepherd's Bush Empire, The Roundhouse, Coco's..... to name a few.

Where do you teach?
I generally prefer to teach at home but will come to the students' home in some situations.

My schedule is fairly flexible around when I'm performing.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I can teach any age and any level.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have been checked for the school I currently work in.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
The Musicians Union.
Where and with whom did you train?
Cardiff University. My trombone teacher was Brian Raby, then principal trombone for Welsh National Opera.
Do you have a personal message for students?
My approach to teaching is that I want students to progress quickly but that I also want them to enjoy playing. This means that I will endeavour to cater for the interests of each individual student whilst giving them different approaches to think about.
