Personal Message
A, singer, teacher + recording artist. Over 7 years of teaching experience and have recorded 5 albums as 1/3 of The Puppini Sisters with Universal. Have also recorded 2 tracks with the lovely Michael Bublé. Perform regularly as a solo artist too.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Singing. Jazz, Pop, Classical technique, Harmony, Theory.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied at Trinity College of Music in London on a Jazz Vocal Perfomance BMus (Hons) degree. What an amazing hotbed of creativity that was. I got well good A-Levels and GCSE's too whilst simultaneously finding the time to be a goth and prioritising the purchasing of enormous amounts of black PVC and procuring huge goth boots with springs in the soles we can discuss further details of this at length in person (if you'd like).
What kind of experience do you have?
Nearly 17 years of gigging internationally and for the last 13, signed to Universal. I have taught privately for the last 6 years. I've recently started running one off and residential workshops using the song format as a tool for greater connection between performers and their audience. Have also guest tutored at various music establishments up and down the country and have been a guest tutor at LCCM (London College of Contemporary Music) on a number of occasions doing one to one lessons as well as lots of group singing, theory and stylistic classes too.
How much do you charge?
£40 per hour.
*A lower hourly fee can be negotiated if booking and paying for block sessions in advance. Ask me for more details about that.
** Please note that 24 hours notice is required for cancellations, otherwise the lesson fee will be charged in full.
Where do you teach?
From my studio at Warwick Works Studios in Hackney Downs.
When are you available?
Mondays from 5-11pm and Wednesdays from 11am-5pm. Other slots may be available too so get in contact and we can sort something out.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
Whoever wants to sing well. Beginners and beyond.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can offer guidance to pupils preparing for any vocal exams, including those auditioning for music colleges/conservatoires etc, though I do not submit students for exams personally.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
No.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
The Puppini Sisters, The Kate Mullins Quartet, "Between Us" with pianist Will Bartlett, King Candy And The Sugar Push, The Musicians Union, PPL, PRS, MCPS.
Where and with whom did you train?
Maureen Scott, Anita Wardell, Anton Brown, Trudy Kerr, Phil Peskett.
Tell me about some of your current students.
From beginners, novices; to enthusiasts, (those who might have lost a hand at cards), to professionals, career changers (to music that is) and a lot of other fantastically eclectic participants to the wonderful music world. I find it's the students who wish to connect with themselves as a human beings through their music who turn out to be the most dedicated and successful pupils. This is certainly the way I approach signing so I really enjoy teaching in such a fundamental way.
Do you have a personal message for students?
If you'd really like to discover the real emotion behind your voice, please come and see me. I give each student a tailor made approach to their vocal studies based entirely on their wants and technical needs. Each lesson is written up and I make a real point of forming and sticking to the goals we set together. It's not just a lesson every week, it's a bespoke vocal programme.

I really believe that good basic technique is the basis for emotional freedom. Sounding effortless is the key but alas, it isn't effortless. It is highly achievable with a small amount of consistent and structured work. I love the idea of turning real life experiences into music. Releasing a varied palette of musical colour and emotion in a performer is my aim.

My latest solo creation, "Between Us" is a multi platform project developed with the brilliant pianist, Will Bartlett, which really pulls together the components of life, music and teaching I hold very dear. Primarily, we use song format as tool for expressive communication; in our concerts, we invite our audience into an intimate two way musical conversation delivering some both ours and their favourite music in a way that is designed to open both us and our audience to the power of musical connection. We also run "Between Us" group music workshops to help budding musicians open themselves, their audience and fellow musicians to this same power of musical connection. This is done in both a group and one on one capacity. We host private events and public groups at various school and educational facilities up and down the country.

As well as teaching, my work with The Puppini Sisters has seen me signed to Universal records for over 10 years and our work has taken me all over the world; from The Royal Variety Show to Capitol Studios recording with Michael Buble and legendary producers, David Foster and Bob Rock (Metallica's 'Black Album'. Yessss…); Strictly Come Dancing, to gigging and tours from the U.S, to Russia, to Thailand, amongst others; each performance and recording is it's own unique and educational experience . I write and arrange for the band too. Aside from The Puppini Sisters, I have individually performed at most of the London stalwarts such as Ronnie Scotts and The 606 Club and and am also an active member and voice of the brilliant swing dance scene with a fantastic mini big band called King Candy and The Sugar Push.

I have a huge bank of recording, performance and harmony-based experience to share with enthusiastic and dedicated people who want to learn to enjoy their voices and discover a new potential.

I am also currently working on various writing and publishing collaborations with some brilliant electronic DJ's and producers including the brilliant Chris Hallmark, The McMash Clan and Ben Mount from the almighty 'Pendulum'.

In short, I love my job and I love teaching those to sing with a fire in their hearts.
