Personal Message
Motivated and organised independent maths tutor, focused on creating a positive and engaging environment to facilitate learning and aid confidence. With over three years' experience tutoring UK students.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I tutor chemistry and mathematics to GCSE level or equivalent.
I also prepare clients for the QTS numeracy skills test and mature students who require maths to further their academic studies or for career progression.
Tell me about your qualifications.
In addition to my GCSE's and A-levels (Biology, Chemistry & Mathematics (Pure & Applied)), I hold a Certificate in Chemistry with Analytical Chemistry and Toxicology from The University of Hull. I also have A Level 3 Award in SEN (Special Education Needs), Advanced Safeguarding Children.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been an independent tutor since May 2013, with students of mixed ability from key stage 3 students wishing to improve their confidence to students studying for their GCSE, IGCSE subjects and prospective teachers taking their QTS numeracy skills test. I have had most of my experience on a face-to-face basis but do also have some experience with online tuition.
How much do you charge?
All my fees are individually listed. I offer an initial 15 min "meet and greet", face to face, where possible.
I do offer discounts for on-line tuition and for block bookings of 10 or more lessons with payment in advance, an 8% discount.
Where do you teach?
I can tutor face to face in my own home or online tuition using Cisco Webex (which is available for free through any internet browser) or Skype.
When are you available?
In term time I am available after school hours on a Monday to Thursday. During school holidays I try to be flexible and can often offer tuition at other times.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I tutor all ages for Key Stages 1-4, GCSE, IGCSE, QTS numeracy skills, numerical reasoning for university entrance or job applications, adult numeracy skills including functional skills and entry level certificates (ELC).
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for 11+, GCSE, IGCSE, QTS numeracy skills test, functional skills, and ELC.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have an enhanced DBS Certificate. It is available to view on here.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I can offer online tuition with both audio and visual capability using Skype. Files can be shared and uploaded and the lesson can be recorded and accessed afterwards. Students can join an online session by using Skype in any internet browser. View the website here -
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Yes I am a member of MEI (Mathematics in Education and Industry) and Number Partners (a national volunteering service supporting numeracy in young people).
Where and with whom did you train?
I have no formal teaching qualifications but my passion to help students gain knowledge and aid confidence, with individually tailored lessons plans has seem them succeed in their subjects and has given me the drive to continue. I am patient, supportive and empathetic to the needs and challenges faced by young people in education.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I have many mixed ability students studying for their GCSE's and IGCSE's in Science and Maths. The one thing they all have in common is they want to do well in their exams and are willing to work hard to get there. I'm very proud of their efforts and wish them every success on their academic journey and beyond. My prospective teachers have a reservation/lack of confidence in maths/numbers, usually from their time at school.
Do you have a personal message for students?
To learn is to grow!
If you chase your dreams, your dreams will find you!
