Personal Message
Hi. Thank you for looking at my profile.

I'm a friendly and enthusiastic music tutor based in Central Scotland. I work throughout the country as a private instructor, conductor and performer.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach all brass instruments including brass band instruments

I teach piano and electronic keyboard.

I teach jazz improvisation on brass only.

I teach music theory from grade 1-8.

I have entered over 180 pupils for grade exams for for both the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and the Trinity Guildhall syllabus' with a 100% pass rate and high level of merit and distinction passes.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I studied for 5 years at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music in Glasgow and gained a Batchelor of Music (performance) degree and a post-graduate diploma in music performance. I was also awarded a LRAM, the teaching qualification from the Royal Academy of Music in London.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught for over 18 years in both group and one-on-one environments. I am currently a brass and piano tutor for Fife Council and the Loretto School in Musselburgh. I have previously taught in many private schools throughout Scotland including Morrisons Academy, Ardvreck, St. Columbas and Craigholme School. I was also the trombone tutor at the specialist music school Douglas Academy in Glasgow. I have taken part in many education projects with organisations such as the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Paragon Ensemble and the RSNO.

I teach individual pupils privately of all ages and levels. I am also a busy conductor in the brass and wind band world as well as still being a freelance performer in both the classical and commercial sphere throughout the UK.
How much do you charge?
My lessons are available in half-hour, 3/4 hour and full hour durations and cost £18, £24 and £30 respectively.

I am happy to do consultation lessons so we can meet and discuss what would be the best option for you.

I do charge for travel expenses on occasion if you wish me to come to your home to teach
Where do you teach?
I am based in Dunfermline, Fife where I have a teaching studio for brass and an upright piano for piano pupils as well. Please note that coming to me for lessons will give you more flexibility with times. I can travel to some pupils but my timetable is busy and travel time may cause an issue. Please get in touch to check.
When are you available?
My schedule is busy but a suitable time for lessons can usually be arranged, please get in touch with your availability.

I do have weekly day-time slots available as well as evenings and weekends.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and all levels. I have had experience with pupils of every standard and from the age of 4 to 85.

I do not follow a set plan or schedule for any pupil, everyone is different and I will make sure to cater to your exact requirements whether that is to prepare for grade exams, start from scratch, or pick up an instrument again after a break.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I have an excellent record of entering over 180 pupils for both the ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall exam syllabus with a majority of merit and distinction level passes.

I can also prepare pupils for all levels of the current SQA requirements.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a current DBS certificate.
Do you have a personal message for students?
My main focus as a tutor has always been to make sure my pupils enjoy their music making as much as I do whilst progressing as quickly as possible. I'm happy to answer any queries you may have concerning music tuition with absolutely no obligation.
