I am an experienced classics teacher having taught classics for over 18 years in both state and private schools.

Tell me about your qualifications.
I have BA and MA qualifications in Literae Humaniores (Classics) from Oxford University
What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught for over 18 years in private and state schools and I am also an experienced classics tutor. I have an excellent record of students achieving grade A at GCSE and A level.
How much do you charge?
I charge £35 per hour for A level and £30 per hour for GCSE. A discount may be applicable for prepaid courses of 10 sessions or more.
Where do you teach?
I teach at home and online only.
When are you available?
I am available weekdays and weekends, daytime and evening.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach GCSE, IGCSE, A level and IB to school and university students and mature learners.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a current DBS certificate.
Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I use Skype, via the webcam on my computer. Where appropriate I provide notes, power points, or worksheets prior to the session and I use shared online resources such as the Perseus Digital Library and the online Cambridge Latin Course. I give feedback on typed emailed work, and whenever possible I provide, afterwards, notes on topics covered during the session.
Tell me about some of your current students.
Most of my current students are preparing for Latin, Greek, and Classical Civilisation A Level. They need focused language, text, topic and literary analysis revision and essay practice. I teach younger students working towards Latin GCSE and I also teach Greek and Latin to mature learners who have no previous experience.
Do you have a personal message for students?
I aim to tutor as flexibly as possible. I can help if a single session is needed to revise a particular topic, or to advise on or give feedback on an essay. I can also offer more continuous support where a paper or module needs to be revised or retaken over a period of time. It is also possible to undertake a complete course from the beginning. This can be done with weekly sessions or more or less frequently.
I enormously enjoy the classics and try to convey the endless fascination of this subject in my sessions. I aim to build confidence with lots of friendly encouragement, but also to teach the skills necessary for writing high quality essays, dealing with complex language work and preparing thoroughly for exams.
