Friendly and enthusiastic clarinet and alto sax teacher in South East London. My approach is tailored to each student's learning objectives - whether that's playing for fun or preparation for ABRSM exams - or maybe a bit of both! 100% pass rate.

Alto sax: Beginners to advanced
Music Theory: Beginners to intermediate
Tell me about your qualifications.
ABRSM Grade 8 Clarinet
What kind of experience do you have?
30+ years' playing experience to ABRSM Grade 8 standard. A wealth of ensemble experience including Symphonic winds: (Solo Clarinet/1st Clarinet/Alto Clarinet/Bass Clarinet), Jazz Orchestra: (Clarinet/Alto Sax), Quartet: (Alto/Soprano Sax). Significant performance experience across London.

Experience teaching both children and adults, from complete beginners to ABRSM candidates.

100% pass rate - all my students entered for ABRSM exams this session achieved either merits or distinctions.
How much do you charge?
£30 for a 1 hour lesson
£25 for a 45 minute lesson
£20 for a 30 minute lesson
Where do you teach?
I teach from home in Sydenham SE26, a five minute walk from Sydenham mainline station (Overground). If you'd rather drive, parking here is free and plentiful!

Depending on timeslot availability I also teach across South East London - Sydenham, Dulwich, Bromley, Southwark, Lambeth and Croydon, so please ask whether I might be able to come to you.
When are you available?
Daytimes, evenings and weekends. After-school slots fill up quickly so please enquire early!
Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and levels welcome, from beginners to advanced. Please note though, it's helpful for young children to have their adult front teeth before beginning.

Adult returners/beginners very welcome: Are you taking up music in later life or returning to your instrument after a long break? I can help.
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for the ABRSM grades, but there's no pressure to take exams if you don't want to.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes - Enhanced Certificate
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Musician's Union
Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain
Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach a wide variety of students on both clarinet and saxophone, with ages ranging from a young clarinet beginner of 7 to older children all the way up to those in their 70s. Some of my younger/teenaged students are entering their ABRSM exams, but I also have adult "returners" who played at school or dabbled in the past and have come back to the instruments after a break. I even have a couple who have taken up the instrument in their retirement!.

It's not all about passing exams; in between grades we work on consolidation of skills by exploring the clarinet/saxophone repertoire and for some older students who don't want to take exams, we work on whatever they like to play to improve their skills.
Do you have a personal message for students?
You will never regret learning an instrument! You'll only regret *not* learning one.
