It is never too late to learn!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
Clarinet tuition from beginner to advanced ability. I am also available for Chamber music coaching, to offer advice to pre-formed ensembles and to work on ensemble skills. I also teach piano to around Grade 5 ABRSM standard and deliver Music theory lessons.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I am a Royal Northern College of Music graduate with a BMus(Hons). This was a 4 year Honours degree which was focused on performance within the conservatoire setting. I studied electives such as Music for Health and also Music in Education and Community as well as academic electives such as aesthetics of music and interdisciplinary to in the arts.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have 7 years of experience teaching in various formats: from 1:1 to whole class Wider Opportunities. I have worked for Cheshire west and chester music service and Bury music service, teaching small groups and Wider Opportunities to both Primary and secondary Schools, as well as running a Flute choir and music theory class. I also worked at Loreto College, Manchester for 5 years working with 6th form pupils 1:1 towards A Level Music Assesments and personal goals. I also ran the Wind Ensemble.

On a private 1:1 basis I have worked with all ages (children and adults) and all abilities across Manchester and Cheshire.
How much do you charge?
£25 per hour and £15.00 half hour.
Where do you teach?
I currently have availability in and around Sale, Manchester on a Tuesday and in Chester on a Thursday.

After years of travelling to pupil's homes I am now teaching from my own home in Egerton, which is fully equipped for a productive and inspiring music lesson. There is easy free parking and have the added advantage of not having familiar distractions for the pupil. It also means I have a huge amount of music, resources and am able to accompany on my piano.

I may travel to the pupil depending on my timetable (and with a small travel expense) so please do get in touch.
When are you available?
I have flexible availability in both day time and evenings. I also teach outside of term time should the pupil wish to.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and abilities and regardless of whether you want to do grades or just play for fun!
Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM classical and jazz exams. I also can prepare students for GCSE and A-Level performances.
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an up to date DBS.
Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the ISM.
Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Chris Swan, Antonio Salguero and Linda Merrick.
Tell me about some of your current students.
I have been teaching Eva for 6 years and taken her from never having blown a clarinet to now Grade 7 and it is always a pleasure to teach her. Eva loves to learn about new stretches and exercises she can do alongside her playing to facilitate her wellbeing but equally loves a sneaky bit of Disney duets (never too old!).

Summer has come such a long way in a short term. Originally taught by another tutor in school Summer started lessons with me 2 years ago and we have gone from never having taken a grade to Grade 5 this year and achieving Distinction (we took Grade 3 last year). Summer has struggled with having confidence in what she does and not being preoccupied by negative thoughts and has come on leaps and bounds to now able to focus on making music, regardless of slips or mistakes. Being able to 'own it' is in my opinion her greatest achievement.
Do you have a personal message for students?
Whether you want to just play for fun or have high aspirations of achieving grades on your instrument, together we can reach your goals in fun and engaging lessons.
