If you're looking for a mature, experienced and enthusiastic lady as a tutor... you've found her!!
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach French and German at all levels and beginners English as a Foreign Language.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I have an MA Degree in French and German from Glasgow University, a certificate for TEFL.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been tutoring for over 25 years but still remain as enthusiastic as at the beginning.
How much do you charge?
My basic hourly rate is £26-£32 per hour per person if the pupil comes to my house but I charge and additional £2 - £5 depending how far I have to travel to the pupil's house. Reduced rates are available for 2 hour sessions.
Where do you teach?
I am happy to teach in either my home in Barrhead or in pupils' homes. Sometimes it may be more suitable/convenient to meet in libraries/cafes. I am happy to travel to all areas of Glasgow, Paisley and most parts of Ayrshire.
I am also accustomed to teaching within business premises.
When are you available?
I am available any time of day or evening or day of the week - depending on other bookings, of course!
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have experience of teaching children as young as 3 years (a great age to start languages - using songs and games), through primary school to secondary with its Cfe National 4/5, Highers and Advanced Highers. This year I have also been helping 2nd Year University Students who were struggling with basics of grammar not grasped at school. I have taught adults learning a language for their career, leisure or moving abroad. I have also been teaching French to a young blind girl for 8 years now since she was very young and is now sitting her Advanced Higher French, having obtained an 'A' pass in her Higher. I recently helped prepare a pupil for Oxford University Entrance Exams. (She was accepted!)

Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
School Examinations - Cfe National 4/5; Highers; Advanced Highers
University Exams
Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do have a DBS certificate.
Tell me about some of your current students.
As detailed above, I have a very broad experience of teaching all levels and ages. I have lots of old 'past papers' for French and German school certificate exams as well as recordings for the 'listening tests'.
I can cater for 'Holiday/Phrase Book' type knowledge in an enjoyable way. One young couple who came to me for a couple of years to learn French as they'd bought a holiday home in France where locals don't speak English, were rather shy of speaking French. I found that sharing a bottle of wine (French, of course!), helped to increase their confidence!
Over a matter of months, I have taught a young man who works in management for a German supermarket chain to speak very confident basic German, having no previous knowledge of the language.

I have also worked within various businesses with adults requiring French or German for their profession, eg BASF in Paisley, Chesapeake Packaging in Blantyre and Hillington, Inside Secure in East Kilbride. For the second year, I am tutoring EDF Energy Graduate Trainees in French for four hours each 'one-to-one' per week. On a Monday evening I hold a French Conversation class in Largs with a group of about 12-15 beginners.

I can provide testimonials if required.
Do you have a personal message for students?
If you're considering learning a language, please give it a go. It's such a great feeling being able to communicate with people in their country, whether for business or leisure. I promise it's NOT difficult and provides such a sense of achievment - almost as much as I gain from teaching it!
