Personal Message
I'm an enthusiastic musician, my ultimate aim is to make people happy through music. I'm an inspiring tutor and a charismatic performer, with a classical foundation, a passion for Romani Gypsy music, and a holistic approach to teaching.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the violin (and viola), classical style to advanced level, also folk and world genres, also the classical piano (up to grade 5), and singing for Balkan, Eastern European and Gypsy styles. I prepare students for grade exams and any other exam thoroughly - my track record of previous students passing exams is a 100% success; on average, 30% of my students pass with distinction and 50% with a merit - I never had a student fail.

I believe in a good technical foundation, regardless of the style one chooses to play. To achieve this, I use various methods including traditional classical methods, elements of Alexander technique, auto-suggestion and playing by ear. This will support smooth bowing, tidy pitch and a great flexibility. It also leads to playing with 'physical ease' (especially important to prevent RSI!).

I also teach the first steps of improvisation, and basic level swing/jazz. I train and support the student in reading sheet music, however, I can do lessons by ear only if required.

I also run regular group classes on Wednesday evenings for Gypsy/Balkan/Eastern European music for all instruments.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a performance and tutor's degree (equivalent to BMus in classical violin and a teaching diploma for piano, both from the Leopold Mozart Konservatorium in Augsburg/Germany. Afterwards I completed a post-graduate course in jazz. My degrees include music theory, conducting, composition, piano and singing. Since then I have studied many Balkan and Eastern European playing styles from native masters. I have also taken Alexander technique, auto-suggestion and yoga classes.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching the violin and piano for 25 years, mostly one-to-one tuition but also group workshops, master-classes, orchestral and ensemble playing. I have students from 3 to 75 years of age. Since 5 years I also teach one-to-one classes and workshops in Balkan/Gypsy singing. The main focus of the lessons include classical training to pass college, A-level and grade exams, students who have problems with RSI and other physical issues, and students who needed help and support in overcoming performance and exam fears.

Do you have a personal message for students?
1) You can start learning an instrument at any age - there is no being 'too old' not even with 70...
2) When learning music, always keep in mind that the joy of making music for you and for the people who listen to you is so much more important than playing the right notes!
