Personal Message
Hello! My name is Marianna Suri and I am a soprano and a voice teacher with over ten years of experience in teaching. I am passionate about the voice and I enjoy tremendously helping singers explore the potential of their voice.
Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Classical Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, Lyric Diction and Musical Theatre.
Tell me about your qualifications.
I received my education in the US. I am a Summa cum Laude (Honours) graduate of Mercyhurst University with a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.) in Voice Performance, the prestigious Rice University with a Master of Music(M.Mus) in Voice Performance and The Ohio State University with a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Vocal Pedagogy. I was a recipient of several Merit Scholarships from all three of the Universities I attended including a full two year scholarship to complete my second Master’s Degree in Vocal Pedagogy. I have also participated in various master classes and opera courses in Italy, Germany and the US.
What kind of experience do you have?
I have worked as a professional soprano in the US and Europe with various orchestras and opera companies. Past performing highlights include the performances of the roles of Mimi, Miss Jessel, Pamina, Inez for the Pafos Aphrodite Festival, Countess Almaviva and Donna Anna for the Cyprus Opera Organization and the performance of Pierrot Lunaire as Sprechistimmer. In concert I have appeared as a soloist for the Oratorio 'Te Deum' with the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra and in Gloria's Vivaldi with the Erie Philarmonic among others. An avid recitalist, I have done numerous thematic recitals spanning from German Lieder, to French Melodie to American Art Song to contemporary new works. Most recently I appeared with the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra as a soloist for a concert dedicated to the life and work of Tchaikovsky and I also appeared in a collaborative new work titled Fear Industry for two actors and a soprano.
As a voice teacher I have worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Classical at the Ohio State University, an Adjunct Professor of Classical Voice at the University of Nicosia, a Singing Teacher at the Nicosia Music Lyceum and most recently as a Singing Teacher at Bird College and Enfiled Music Service. I have a special interest in the developing and changing voice of adolescents and have guided and 'build' successfully the voices of many young singers.
In addition to teaching one-on-one voice lessons I also have experience teaching class voice, vocal pedagogy, diction for singers, studio class and small ensemble for voice.
